A construction is initiated to satisfy a need for one; student organizations are organized along individual and academic interests.  At the onset of Academic Year 1985-1986, a handful of Civil Engineering students undertook what was then an unseemly mission: to raise a unifying alternative to the placid majority of the CE department.

It was so easy for the group’s intentions to be misinterpreted as an open threat to polarize, to divide, or to diminish.  It was a fact that a large number of students remained unorganized; the demand for a fresh organization could no longer be sheepishly shunned.

The task was not taken lightly.  The core group took off by inviting friends and trusted colleagues into the still unnamed organization.  Advice was sought from the organizations in other department on org-building.  By the time 38 students were committed, the name was put into vote.  CE Club was edged, for better of for worse, by UP Aggregates.

The UP Aggregates was now standing on one foot.  It had a constitution and 38 charter members.  But would it survive?

1985-1986:  Pedro Moreno, the first president took no chances.  Immediate attention was turned towards the consolidation of the standing membership.

1986-1987:  Melchor Sirilan succeeded Pitoy at the year’s end.  He perceived correctly that the Aggregates was now stable enough to embark on a more ambitious recruitment drive.  This was facilitated by the acquisition in July 1986 of the present tambayan.  During Choi’s term, the org left a mark in the college by sponsoring a bikeathon in the 1987 Engineering Week celebration.  Mr.Fernando Germar and Andy Oreta served as the organization’s faculty advisers.

1987-1988:  Jerry Cielo was elected president the following year.  The Aggregates was no longer tentative in its role as a Civil Engineering org.  The College granted the Aggregates full recognition as an organization on the 22nd of July 1987, with Prof. Alfredo B. Juinio, Jr. as acting adviser.  The tambayan was expanded to accommodate more members as its integration into the Engineering community was sealed.

1988-1989:  Archimedes Tesoro’s term saw the organization’s rise to being “not just the other CE org.”  Several ambitious projects were initiated, the largest being Salitagisan, an interlock word factory game.  An alumni homecoming was also held that year in honor of the founding members.

1989-1990:  the following year, Richard Yap took charge.  The org was actively involved in several endeavors, such as the handling of two freshmen blocks, the sponsorship of and the participation in basketball games, and rummage sales.  The membership grew and the camaraderie all the more stimulated the members and applicants alike.

1990-1991:  Vizen Joyas was elected president.  It was the organization’s fifth year, but it was no time to relax as there was no limit to growth and the organization depended on its membership.  Vizen’s leadership put emphasis on the recruitment of more students to the fold of UP Aggregates.

1991-1992:  Ma. Salvacion Celzo did a “Cory Aquino,” becoming the first woman president that is.  Her term marked the Salitagisan going hi-tech and with a record attendance of freshmen blocks.  During the Engineering Week, the Aggregates' presence can never be denied.

1992-1993:  Edgardo P. Kasilag II succeeded Salve at the onset of that academic year.  Participation in the Freshmen Orientation Program Committee (FOPC) marked the start of a fruitful year.  Taking his predecessor’s challenge, Jon led the organization in the tremendously successful Salitagisan ’92.  The Engineering Science Quiz that was initiated in the previous year was a “smash hit” during the Engineering Week.  The second alumni homecoming held on February 1993 was also a resounding success.

1993-1994:  Nathaniel Diola was the new president.  With a record number of 37 applicants, this was a very successful year for the UP Aggregates.

1994-1995:  During Jerome Catbagan’s term, the organization’s activities were geared toward the org’s financial stability.  Sales, film showings, Christmas caroling, and a very profitable stint in a TV games show proved rewarding in this respect.  Preparations for the following year’s alumni homecoming were initiated, and consolidating activities were given more emphasis.

1995-1996:  It was Wimie Aguilar, the org’s second lady president who ruled with an iron hand on a velvet glove.  Her term celebrated the Aggregates’ 10th year anniversary by embarking on more serious projects such as the advance screening of “Species,” and the third alumni homecoming held at the Grand Boulevard Hotel.

1996-1997:  Rommel Regacho believed that it was now time for the expansion of the UP Aggregates.  True to his words, the organization had a 50-member count plus 19 newly inducted members.  The first Eng’gchanted Magic: The Gathering Tournament was held during the Engineering Week.

1997-1998: Rachelle Q. Morano took the helm and led the pack to more innovative activities.  Celebrating the organization’s 12th year of inception and 10th year of College recognition, then capped with a homecoming, film showing, revival of the ES Quiz, CE Talk, and the Engineering Week activities, it was a busy but fun-filled year for the UP Aggregates.  The final activity was a medical mission in Muntinlupa.

1998-1999: Dexter Ngo is the incumbent president.  The orgnization's activities are still being planned but you can bet that this year will be a better one yet.
