The UBP Central Intake unit provides eligibility screening and admission to UBP substance abuse programs as well as placement in other community-based programs. This unit maintains an extensive network of inpatient and outpatient substance abuse linkages, including inpatient detoxification, short-term rehabilitation, therapeutic communities, outpatient clinics, day programs, etc.
The program was originally sponsored by the Federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment ("CSAT") and utilizes the new York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services ("OASAS") Target Cities Management Information System. This computerized database is used to match clients with available treatment programs and to track their progress from admission through completion.
UBP Central Intake also links clients with other UBP programs for which they may be eligible and to other concrete social services and emergency programs, such as hot meals programs, food pantries, homeless shelters, etc. Which clients may need before they can access treatment services. Clients are assisted in obtaining Medicaid and other necessary entitlements as part of the admissions process. Additionally, two HIV Peer Educators are stationed in this unit to provide outreach to persons in need of HIV risk reduction education and support services.
Through a project sponsored by CSAT with the North Manhattan Service Providers Network, the New York City Department of Correction and OASAS, a special Case Manager is also available to assist persons recently released from Rikers Island obtaining services at UBP and in making a successful transition from jail to the community. Outreach and admission screening is provided weekly at the Rose M. Singer Center for women on Rikers Island.
UBP Central Intake is located at Mrs. A's Place and is open from 9:00A.M. until 5:00P.M., Monday through Friday. Intake staff can be reached through the main number: (718) 617-6060.
Admission to UBP's HIV services takes place at Mrs. A's Place. Persons interested in HIV Case Management should contact the HIV Director or other case management staff at 617-6060 or come by to arrange an initial interview. To enroll in Women's Supportive Services, contact the Support Group Coordinator. To sign up for prevention workshops or inquire about a Peer Training Institute program.
For admission requirements to UBP's social service programs or adult education classes located at UBP, see the individual program listings. Anyone in need of services is also encouraged to drop in to any of our facilities. If someone is in need of a service we do not have on site, UBP staff will help get that person the needed service by referral and if necessary, advocacy. Our motto is that "no one goes away empty handed."
