A smile is worth a thousand words
There are wars being
fought and people are sick
This world is never at ease
But my small world's in turmoil and some couldn't know
and some couldn't possibly see.
Some would say this is silly, I know that it's true
She is maudlin, it isn't real pain.
But when I consider this loss I can say
That my world won't again be the same.
There's a picture I'll carry around in my heart
Of a tiny, black dog who was real.
She lived for our strokes and she tried so to please
And she always would know how I'd feel.
Her tail wagged the dog when she greeted us here
As she'd run to the gate to say "hi"
The neighbors would stop because Dusty would smile
With a grin that was bright as the sky.
It's almost a span of
fifteen short years
Since Dusty came into our home.
A tiny wee puppy all silky and sweet
And she claimed all of us as her own.
As the "Mom" I would say she's the only kid here
Who would listen and always obey
She was fierce when challenged, protective when teased
And her love often brightened bad days.
Well the last trip to
visit the doctor confirmed
That her time with us now will be brief
She is hurting and will not get better and so
We will soon have to give her relief.
We'll be saying goodbye to our Dusty quite soon
And her resting place will be our yard.
She's earned her reward and we know this is right
But the actual parting's so hard.
This tiny sweet dog will live on in our hearts
As we give her this last gift of ease.
Goodbye, precious friend, you've been so very dear
May you sleep now and just rest in peace.
The wars will continue and life will go on
And to others who scorn I would say
God gives us pets and they give us love
May such love sometime brighten your day.
