A
Christian Mother
A mother is a lot of things
or so the saying goes.
A keeper for the house and home,
a cheerer of the woes.
A handyman, a seamstress,
child specialist and nurse.
A waitress and the best of cooks
(though sometimes she's the worst).
A financier, a buyer,
health advocate and teacher
An arbitrator for the kids,
then sometimes she's the preacher.
She must find time in every day
to do so many chores
There seems to be no end at all
to dishes, beds and floors.
And then she gets discouraged
and weary of it all.
She wonders if there's anyone
who hears her frantic call.

Now long ago in Nazareth
there was a maiden young.
The first real Christian Mother
who bore a heavenly son.
She kept the house and cooked the meals
and cheered up any woes.
She cared for sick ones in their need.
She sewed and mended clothes.
She did the very same dull chores
That mothers do each day.
But while she did them for our Lord
She showed us all the way
To offer up each menial task
and never ask Him why.
To take the pain with happiness
and thank Him till we die
For giving us the honor that
compares not with another.
To raise and lead a child to Christ,
To be a Christian Mother.
