About Our Club: |
The Heartland Racewalkers , an outgrowth of the Kansas City Walkers Club started by Don and Debbie Lawrence, has been in existence for almost ten years. "Most of our members participate for fitness and fun, but a few also enter competitions. One of our members, Jean Brunnenkant, won a Gold medal at the Senior Olympics in Baton Rouge. Two of our members, Fred Adams and Alan Poisner, have won Gold medals in Missouri and Kansas Senior Olympics and have participated in 3-4 national senior Olympics. We have also won medals at regional and national competitions and the Nike World Games. Our brightest star Emma Carter recently won the national high school girls championship. We have monthly meetings with speakers on topics of interest to walkers, such as nutrition, stretching, injury prevention, etc. (Of course the food that is part of the meeting is also a big attraction!) We have the special advantage of being able to use the Health Plus fitness facility as a base of operations. Thus we do our stretching before and after our workouts indoors and also have the use of the 10-lap track when the weather is too cold, too hot or too wet at our twice-a-week sessions. We meet on Saturday mornings (8AM) and on Wednesday evenings (6PM). If anyone in the racewalking community has the occasion to be in the Kansas City area, we would be very happy to have them join us for some walking and warm camaraderie." |
