Course Description
Keyboarding & Integrated Computer Applications are
hands-on courses where students develop proficiency in the
most popular business/office software applications: word processing,
spreadsheets, database management, multimedia and telecommunications
and desktop publishing. In addition to developing technical
competence in using these business tools students will also
polish their communication skills and command of the English
language, explore career paths and opportunities in using
computers in business, understand the differences and functions
among commercial software products, and be able to critically
evaluate them in both the context of business and computer
requirements.
Course Objectives
- Students who will successfully complete this course should
be able to
- Demonstrate mastery of touch keyboarding using correct
techniques such as body posture, hand position, eyes on
printed copy, and key by touch
- Increase speed and accuracy of keyboarding ability using
high frequency words straight copy material on 2-3 minute
timed writings
- Understand the parts, types, and uses as well as differentiate
between personal and business communication
- Create and edit reports, letters, memos, labels, envelopes
and other printed business communication materials from
unarranged, edited and script copy using word processing
software
- Demonstrate word processing formatting skills according
to acceptable uses of email, fax, notes, etc.
- Demonstrate good editing skills using correct grammar,
punctuation, capitalization, proofreader's marks
