Founded in 1986, the Coven of the Crystal Garden is an ecclectic group based in the Georgian tradition of Wicca. We are a working/teaching coven with members in seven states and in Australia. Because we believe that knowledge shared is power gained, our aim is to share information and educate the seeker in the hopes that someday, we can live in a truly ecumenical world.
We believe in the duality of God-head; i.e., the Gods are both male and female, and deserve equal worship. We lean more toward the Celtic ways, but incorporate Deities from various traditions and belief systems in our personal pantheons. This is because we recognize that all Deities are important and powerful in Their Own right.
Although we celebrate the Sabbats and Esbats, our celebrations seldom take the form of formal ritual. We do not subscribe to the skyclad practices of some other covens. This is not because we are ashamed of the human body. We choose to practice clothed because blatant nudity tends to be misconstrued by some, insulting to others, and we believe that our practices should never harm anyone physically, mentally, or emotionally. Besides, who ever heard of a bit of clothing impeding anyone’s personal magic?! :)
Because we believe that personal creativity and spontaneity is the root of all magic, most of us write our own spells, rituals, and invocations.
Founded in Bakersfield, California by George E. "Pat" Patterson in 1970, the Georgians were chartered first by the Universal Life Church in 1972. Later, in 1980, they were chartered again as The Church of Wicca Bakersfield. Very ecclectic, the Georgian beliefs are based in Gardnerian, Alexandrian, and British Traditionalist traditions. They are God/dess oriented and perhaps the most individualized of the Wiccan traditions. Georgian groups are both magical and religious in practice, and members are encouraged to learn from any and all available sources. For this reason, rituals and practices vary from member to member.
