The new PACIFIC ORCHID SOCIETY BULLETIN

 26 July 2001

To All P O S Members:

We have come to a Y in the path of our society's future and your Board has chosen
what we consider to be the right one.

After nearly 30 years of jointly producing the Na Okika o Hawaii (Hawaii Orchid Journal)
with the Honolulu Orchid Society, your Board of Directors is recommending that we dissolve
that relationship. After the last issue of 2001, we will no longer be responsible for the
publication or financial responsibilities of Na Okika O Hawaii, the Hawaii Orchid Journal.

You may not know but the cost of producing and mailing the Na Okika exceeds our dues
and it is not our desire to raise them. We believe that to continue to subsidize a magazine
that really does not involve or include us is irresponsible.

The Pacific Orchid Society is seeking to recover its previous identity and individuality,
exercise better fiscal responsibility (by conserving and not subsidizing publication funds) and
better serve its members by keeping closer to the stated objective of education for our members.
With that in mind, it is proposed that with the beginning of 2002, we will return to the publication
of the original Pacific Orchid Society Bulletin. The Bulletin will be more as a up-scale newsletter,
published quarterly (in color), featuring articles closer to member activities as meetings and safaris,
detailed orchid culture and semi-scientific items. The Bulletin is not scheduled to include news of
other societies, unless our members are involved (as in a show), so to continue that news,
it is suggested thatoverseas members gain that information through membership
in the Honolulu Orchid Society.

In choosing this path we feel that we can best serve our members.

--Ted Green, Past President
