This is the official website of the CAVYCOLORS and CAVYCOLORS-BINARY mailing lists. I am the mailing list admin, Erin Smith. The cavycolors list was created to help share information on color breeding in cavies. Any topic related to this subject is welcome! The cavycolors-binary list was created to share pictures of cavys. Discussion of pictures should take place on the main cavycolors list.

The Archives for the binary list only contain digests... not the pictures. Sorry, but that's how it works. If you are subscribed to the list in Digest Mode and don't get the pictures, try asking the sender of the picture if they could send it to you privately.

For now this site is rather sparse, but I'll keep adding to it as I find information pertaining to the list. Right now, you can go to the Member List. If you are already subscribed and haven't yet filled out the Member's Form, you can go there now.

I'm working on making a color/gene chart similiar to the Gerbil Color Palette, only for cavies. To this end, I am collecting pictures of the different colors, and information about the genotypes of said. Also, if you are not from the USA, and a color is called by a different name in your country, feel free to send me that information also! Right now we are just in the very earliest stages of this project. I have compiled a table of all the colors I know of, and indicated which I already have pictures of. Even if  I already have a picture of a given color, I don't mine submissions of further pictures! After all, some of my pics might not be the best examples, or your pics might show a different possibility. Also, I'd like to show pics of the different colors on different coat types. Please send all non-picture submissions to Lady_Neeva@Hotmail.com and all picture submissions to RoseyDawn@Earthlink.net. Also, the table is missing some colors. If anyone wants to add to this list, feel free to email me at the address above. For now, you can visit the table of colors, and see what we have.

 Hello, and welcome to the list! This brief message is intended to be an introduction to the list CavyColors, and describe some of the posting rules.

 First off, this list is intended to be used to discuss genetic information pertaining to the breeding of cavies. While color genetics is the main focus, all other genetic topics can and should be discussed. This includes, but is not limited to, discussion of Abby rosettes, Satin genetics, getting a correct coronet, etc. This list is not intended to discuss general breeding issues (such as when to wean, what age to breed, etc.) or cavy care issues.

 If you breed a color considered rare or hard to find (or if someone asks about a color/breed you specialize in) you are permitted to post a small (fewer than 20 lines) sales announcement with prior approval of the list manager (lady_neeva@hotmail.com). Other than this exception, do not post lists of cavies for sale please!

 Posting of chain letters, virus warnings, get rich quick schemes, or pyramid schemes is NOT permitted under ANY circumstances. If you recieve a message you believe to be spam from a member of the list, please report it to abuse@onelist.com and the list manager, who will take the appropriate actions. Violation of this rule will result in a warning (first offense), followed by having your subscription moderated (meaning all messages by you must be approved by the manager prior to being sent to the list... second offense) and being banned from the list (third offense)

 Flaming, name calling, etc. is NOT going to be tolerated. You can disagree with someones views, practices, and opinions as much as you like, but publicly calling them names is out! First offense, your subscription is moderated, second offense your subscription is cancelled and you are placed on the banned list. You will also recieve a warning after the first offense. Please keep things civil. On the same topic, swearing is absolutely prohibited! This list is intended for educational purposes, and as such children might be reading. Same penalties apply.

 If a message subject begins with ADMIN: it is information pertaining to the list itself and should be read.

There is now a sister list, called cavycolors-binary. Please use that list to post all pictures, and this list to post all discussion.

 To unsubscribe from this list, go to the ONElist web site, at www.onelist.com, and select the User Center link from the menu bar on the left. This menu will also let you change your subscription between digest and normal mode.

 Please follow all the rules, and have fun! This message is not meant to sound draconian, just want it to be clear what is and is not allowed. If it isn't listed under not allowed, feel free to post.
