Meghan K. Western

Dancer, Choreographer, Instructor

Meghan has been teaching and choreographing for community-based programs since high school, and has found that the most rewarding art comes out of the gathering of community and the exchange of experience and ideas. She believes in a simple tenant, which informs her teaching and choreography:

“Start at the beginning. Keep it fun, Don't skip steps. Challenge yourself and others.”

Classes should be taught starting with the basics, the foundations that allow a body to move freely and healthily. Each session, simple or challenging, should leave the participants with a feeling of accomplishment and energy. There is no gain in skipping ahead without first mastering the simplistic, no student should be forced beyond their own abilities in an effort to achieve a determined product. Rather, the abilities of each student should be reasonably challenged to foster growth and a passion for learning. Students and dancers should feel empowered to reach beyond themselves, take risks, and grasp the exhilaration of movement.
