Recommendation
- The Best Way to Save MIDI Files to Your Disk
- With Windows & Netscape, shift - (right) click the link.
- With Macintosh & Netscape, option - click the link.
This will bypass your MIDI plugin or MIDI player, too.
What Do The Keywords Mean?
- [.mid]
- Uncompressed Standard MIDI Files. You can play these right away with a properly-configured browser or a MIDI plugin.
- [.zip]
- The most common compressions system used for MIDI files.
- [.gz] [.lzh] [.Z] [.arj] [.uue]
- Other compression systems.
- [.zip packs]
- This site has packages of files for fast downloading.
- [all-in-1.zip]
- You can download every file at this site in one convenient zip pack.
- The number following the [.mid] or [.zip]
- This is the approximate number of files at the time I registered the site. Many sites will have many more files than this. Sites without this number are most likely the "old-timers" which were registered before I started including this information (late in 1995).
- WARNINGS about sites that many people like to avoid are givin in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
- EMBED
- This is a page which has an embedded MIDI file.
- COMMERCIAL
- A commercial site sells MIDI files.
- LAYERS
- Sites which require you to navigate through many pages to get to the MIDI files.
- FRAME
- If this appears as a clickable link, then the main link I have listed is to a non-frame page. If it is not clickable, then you'll just have to use the frame until I have time to change the main link.
- REQUIRES IMAGES / REQUIRES IMAGE MAP
- The page writer forgot to include text links, too.
- REQUIRES CGI / REQUIRES FORMS
- The page writer forces you to wait for a CGI program to execute to download the MIDI files.
- REQUIRES JAVASCRIPT
- If you don't like javascript or cannot use it, avoid any page with this message.

Fake Copies of 'SMF on the Net'
Please don't plagiarize 'SMF on the Net'. It doesn't cause me to lose financially since I do this list as a volunteer service, but the Internet MIDI community loses if there is no central place to list sites with MIDI files. At one time, there were over 10 "copied" versions of this list. Most were withdrawn after a polite letter from me, but a few still exist with someone else claiming to maintain the list.
If you have mistakenly sent a link to the wrong list, then please submit the link to SMF on the Net.
