Nicholas Jones
Composer

Born in Alveley in 1973, educated at Alveley Primary School and later at Oldbury Wells School, Bridgnorth, he is in his final year of a PHD degree in music at Cardiff University, where he gained his Bachelor of Music in 1994 and Master of Music in 1995.
He conducts and directs the University Contemporary Music Group, lectures undergraduates and has just completed a large scale choral/orchestral work.
In 1996 he was selected from a world wide pool of applicants to study with the great composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. This intensive study took place on th Island of Hoy in the Orkneys.


In 1997 he was highly commended by the Royal Philharmonic Society for his orchestral work "Bruaria". Later that year the SPNM gave a public performance of his "In the grey of the dawn" under the direction of Howard Skempton.
The "Music and Letters" Journal will shortly publish a paper by Nick entitled "Architectural Principles of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' third symphony."
