- one of my top favourite actors ever
- I like him most as Oscar Madison on the TV hit series "The Odd Couple" (1970 - 1975), as Juror # 5 in "12 Angry Men" (1957), and as Dr. R. Quincy on the TV hit series "Quincy, M. E."
- he is married to actress Brett Somers since 1956
- Brett Somers played Blanche on the TV hit series "The Odd Couple", Oscar Madisons ex-wife
- in 1989, he had to undergo surgery for throat cancer, and for a few years after he was unable to talk - now, he is able to speak, but only in a rough-sounding whisper
