Reuben J. Russell Rev. Reuben J. Russell was born 1-24-1866, and he died 4-12-1936 in Jersey County, IL. He was the son of William and Clarica A. (Pettit) Russell. He is buried in Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. He was married to Martha A Hand, the daughter of Shadrick and Tabitha Hand. She was born 8-25-1868, and died 6-17-1930. Rev. Reuben Russell was a well known minister in the Fieldon, Nutwood, and Rosedale areas of Jersey County, IL from about 1905 until his death in the 1930's. Rev. Reuben and Martha (Hand) Russell had 6 children-Justus Russell, Charles Russell, George Russell, Paul Russell, Harold Russell, and Pearl Russell. (1) Rev. Reuben and Martha (Hand) Russell's son Justus Russell was born 6-21-1891 in Oswego, Kansas, and died in Nov. 1968 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL. He is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Jersey County, IL. He married Alice Mae Kirchner 1-12-1910 in Jersey County, IL. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Susan (Davenport) Kirchner. She was born 8-16-1889 in Jersey County, IL, and died 8-9-1952 in Nutwood, IL. She is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Jersey County, IL. They lived in Nutwood, IL and Justus Russell farmed in the Nutwood, IL area. He was the son of Rev. Reuben and Martha (Hand) Russell. --------------- Justus Russell's obituary - Justus Russell, died 11-1968. Justus Russell, 77 years, 4 months, 10 days, of 2146 State St., Granite City, died at 8:45 pm Friday at Alton Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient for 2 weeks. The former western Jersey County farmer was the son of the late Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell. He was born in Greene County, June 21, 1891 and was a member of the Assembly of God church here. His survivors are his wife, Rev. Olivia Y. Russell; 1 daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Hazel) Ayres, Fieldon; 1 son, Earl Russell; 5 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Charles, George, and Harold Russell of Jerseyville, and Paul Russell of Carrollton; 1 sister Mrs. Pearl McGowen of Jerseyville; 1 step-son, Jack Hous of Keokuk, IA, and 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Robert Haynes of Granite City. ----------------- Justus Russell's wife Alice Mae (Kirchner) Russell's obituary - Mrs. Alice Mae Russell, died 08-09-1952. Mrs. Alice Mae Russell, 62, wife of Justus Russell, died August 9 in Nutwood. The daughter of Benjamin & Susan (Davenport) Kirchner and born in Jersey County, August 16, 1889. She leaves her husband, 2 sons, Everett and Earl Russell of Fieldon, 1 daughter, Mrs. Hazel Ayers of Fieldon, 5 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Ed Kirchner of Jerseyville, Elmer Kirchner of Kane, George Kirchner of Fieldon, 2 sisters, Mrs. Adolph Wahl and Mrs. Parker Collins preceded her in death. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. Everett Russell's wife was named Dorothy. I don't know her maiden name. She was a minister. Everett and his wife Dorothy had 2 daughters-Martha Russell, and another daughter who's name I don't know. ----------------- (3a) Justus and Alice (Kirchner) Russell's daughter Hazel Mae Russell was born 9-3-1921 in Jersey County, IL, and died 7-22-2003 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL. She is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. She married Ralph Ayres 12-10-1938 in St. Charles, MO. He died 4-20-1982. They had 2 children-Naomi Ayres who married Lambert Hagan of Jerseyville, IL, and Patricia (Ayres) Phillips of Taylorville, IL. ---------------- Justus Russell remarried after his first wife Alice (Kirchner) Russell's death. His second wife's name was Olivia and she was a pastor at the Nutwood Union Church in Nutwood, IL for a number of years during the 1950's and 1960's. (2) Rev. Reuben and Martha (Hand) Russell's son Charles William Russell was born 7-5-1889 in Oswego, Kansas, and died 1-21-1970 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL. He married Anna Marie Minard, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Boomer) Minard. She was born 10-1-1898 in Fieldon, Jersey County, IL. She died 7-30-1970 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL. Charles William Russell, 80, of Jerseyville died January 21, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation was held Friday pm. Rev. Roy Hill of Gillespie officiated at the rites. A retired farmer, he was born July 5, 1889 in Oswego, KS, the son of Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Minard?) He was born Sept. 25, 1941, to Charles William and Anna Marie (Minard) Russell. He and the former Margaret Adams were married on Dec. 10, 1968, in Grant Town, W.Va. She died Sept. 7, 2006. Survivors include a sister, Esther Howard of Jerseyville; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Jean Russell, Charles and Betty Russell, all of Jerseyville, and Clarence "Pat" and Margaret Russell of Kane. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Russell; and a sister, Leona Roe. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family in care of Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home of Jerseyville. -------------------- Donald Russell's wife - Margaret (Adams) Russell, 68, died at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Willow Rose Health Care in Jerseyville. She was born June 19, 1937, in Grant Town, W.Va., to Julius and Irene (Fitzer) Adams. She married Donald Russell Dec. 10, 1968, in Grant Town. He survives. She was a homemaker and an avid TV watcher and puzzler. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Julius Adams of Elizabethtown, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joe Adams; and a sister, Eleanor Taylor. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Russell, Sr., 74 years, 10 months, and 3 days, died Friday at 5:55 am at his home on Locke St., Jerseyville. Although he had been in ill health for some time his death was unexpected. "Bud" Russell was born 1916 in Jerseyvile, IL. He died 5-1-1987 at St. Luke Hospital West in Chesterfield, MO at age 81. He married Dorothy Foster 6-17-1934 in Jersey County, IL. She died 9-5-1995. They are both buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jersyville, IL. They had 4 children-Ralph Eugene Russell, Roger William Russell, Robert Josep Russell all of Jerseyville, IL, and Priscilla Ann Russell who married Dennis Kent Prough 7-13-1958 and lives in Kane, IL. -------------------- George E. "Bud" and Dorothy (Foster) Russell's son - Roger William Russell, 60, formerly of Jerseyville, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital after being diagnosed with cancer in May. He was born Nov. 8, 1946, at home in Jerseyville, one of four children of the late George E. "Bud" and Dorothy (Foster) Russell. He graduated from Jersey Community High School and was a very talented and loving individual. He used his carpentry skills for many years as he worked alongside his father in the construction field and then his brother, Ralph. He also had a unique touch with flowers and designing and was able to help many people make their weddings or special occasions with his keen sense of style. He moved to St. Louis in 1994 after accepting a position as a designer at Baisch & Skinner, where he was still employed. Survivors include a sister, Priscilla Prough of Kane; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph E. and June Russell of Jerseyville; a sister-in-law, Judy Russell of Jerseyville; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and truly many friends. In accordance with his wishes, his remains were cremated, and a celebration of life service will be held at Squires in St. Louis. His ashes will be interred at a later date on his parents' lot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery. He married Kathryn I. McAdams 2-5-1938 in Jersey County, IL. She died 6-13-1993. She is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. They had 3 children-Fran (Russell) Fosha of Jerseyville, IL, Sharon Yvonne Russell who married Donald Ray Looper 4-4-1959 and lived in Jerseyville, IL, and Gloria (Russell) McClary of Brighton, IL. Ralph Laverne and Kathryn "Katie" (McAdams) Russell's daughter - Sharon (Russell) Looper, 61, died at 9:59 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, at her home. She was born Jan. 17, 1942, in Jerseyville to Ralph Laverne and Kathryn "Katie" (McAdams) Russell. She married Donald R. Looper on April 4, 1959, in Jerseyville. He was killed in a motor vehicle accident March 5, 1984, shortly before their 25th wedding anniversary. She had previously worked at Fran & Marilyn's restaurant as a waitress before becoming a cook at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, quitting when her husband became ill. After his death she began working again, this time as a sales clerk at Coop's Jewelry in Jerseyville, until her poor health required her retirement. Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Kim and Steve Crader of Jerseyville, Donna and Harley Crader of Jerseyville and Sherrie and Budd Trott, stationed at McGuire AFB in New Jersey; five grandchildren, Tonya Stahl, Harley Crader Jr., Cassandra Crader, Carmen Crader and Mark Trott; a great-granddaughter, Whitney Stahl; and two sisters, Fran Fosha of Jerseyville and Gloria Wendle of Dow. Besides her parents and husband, preceding her in death was a granddaughter, Brandy Schneider. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home, Jacoby Chapel, in Jerseyville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Ed Haun will officiate. Burial will be near her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. (Meppin) Dean Russell's daughter Betty C. (Dean) Johnson's obituary - Betty C. Johnson, 82, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Jersey County to Abraham and Nora (Maupin) Dean. A homemaker, she married Everett E. Johnson May 10, 1942, in Old Monroe, Mo. He died March 21, 1993. Surviving are three sons and their wives, Everett and Pat Johnson of Jerseyville, Michael and Mary Jane Johnson of Groveland, Ill., and Dave and Debby Johnson of Waverly, Ill.; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Edward "Sonny" McNeal of Petersburg, Ill., and Peg and Bill Mitchell of Kane; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Nicholas Johnson; five brothers, Abraham, Jake, Alfred, Thomas and Jim Dean; and two sisters, Alice Hamilton and Josephine Betkovich. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. The Rev. William H. Hembrow will officiate. They had 2 children-Paul Russell Jr, and Margie Russell. -------------- Paul and Ruth (Bartlett) Russell's son Paul Russell Jr was born 8-29-1923 in Jerseyville, IL. He died 9-17-2003 in Jerseyville, IL. He married Ruth Ewing 9-22-1952. They had 2 daughters-Ruth (Russell) Cox of Olmsted, IL, and Margery (Russell) Newingham (deceased). Paul Russell Jr also had 2 stepdaughters-Sandra and her husband Ronald Goble of Alton, IL, and Barbara Holtmann of Troy, IL. ----------------- Paul and Ruth (Bartlett) Russell's daughter Margie Russell married a man who's last name was Scheffel and they lived in Jerseyville, IL. (5) Rev. Reuben and Martha (Hand) Russell's son Ruben Harold Russell was born in Oswego, Kansas. He died 2-27-1970 at age 65. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. His wife's name was Lillian. She died 8-11-1993. She is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. They had 1 son, Richard Russell who is deceased. ------------------- Ruben Harold Russell's obituary - Ruben Harold Russell, 65 years, 5 months, and 3 days, a retired carpenter of Jerseyville died Wednesday am. Services were held at 1:30 pm Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Orlen Lane and Rev. Louis Kappler officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday afternoon. Mr. Russell, a son of the late Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell, was born in KS. His health had been impaired since incurring injuries in a truck accident several years ago. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Russell; 1 brother, Paul of Carrollton, and 1 sister Mrs. Pearl McGowen of Jerseyville. 1 son, Richard Harold, 3 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death. (6) Rev. Reuben and Martha (Hand) Russell's Daughter Pearl A. Russell was born December 27, 1895 in Kansas, and died April 16, 1983 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville, IL. She married Edward W. McGowen. He died Jan. 8, 1962. They lived in English Township, Jersey County, IL. She later married Lyman L. Gowling. He died Nov. 21, 1977. Edward and Pearl (Russell) McGowen had these children-Walter E. McGowen, Opal B. McGowen, Dorothy McGowen, Gladys McGowen, Lawrence McGowen, and Zarder May McGowen. ------------------- Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell's daughter Pearl M. (Russell) McGowen Gowling's obituary - Pearl M. Gowling, 87, of Jerseyville died April 16 at Greenwood Manor nursing home. She was born December 27, 1895 in Kansas, daughter of Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell. Her husband, Lyman Gowling, died November 21, 1977 and she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ed McGowen who died January 8, 1962. Surviving are 2 sons, Walter E. McGowen and Lawrence McGowen of Hardin; 3 daughters, Gladys Ames of Peoria, Opal Priest and Dorothy Timpe of Jerseyville; 9 grandchildren; 15 g-grandchildren; 3 g-g-grandchildren. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Funeral service was from Gospel Assembly church April 19 with Rev Clyde Shaw officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. ---------------- Pearl (Russell) McGowen Gowling's husband Lyman L. Gowling's obituary - Lyman L. Gowling, 84, of Jerseyville died November 21, 1977 at Jersey County Memorial hospital. He was born June 5, 1893 in Jersey county, a son of George & Fanny (Corzine) Gowling and was a retired farmer. He was a charter member of the Assembly of God church. Surviving are his wife, Pearl (Russell) Gowling; 1 daughter, Mrs Virginia Prosser, Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren, Lyman Fleming and Gene Prosser of Jerseyville and Mrs Lois Call of Mascoutah; 9 g-grandchildren; 5 g-g-grandchildren; 3 step daughters, Mrs Gladys Ames of Peoria and Mrs Opal Priest and Mrs Dorothy Timpe of Jerseyville; 2 stepsons, Lawrence and Walter McGowen of Hardin; and 2 sisters, Mrs Clara Krug of Springfield and Mrs Luella Nowlin of Lake Jackson, TX. His first wife, Nettie Gowling, died in 1967. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville where services were held November 23. Reynolds whom he married 4-17-1937 in Jersey County, IL. Walter and Mary E. (Reynolds) McGowen had 3 sons-Gene McGowen of Brighton, IL, Mike McGowen of Jerseyville, IL, and Tim McGowen of Jerseyville, IL. He also had a stepdaughter Mrs. Pat Rench, husband Jim Rench of Jerseyville, IL. Walter E. McGowen's second wife was the former Ethyl Mae Boomer, the daughter of Roy and Dela Ione (Gettings) Boomer. She and Walter E. McGowen were married 10-20-1978. She had been married previously to William Henry Shultz 10-10-1935. William Henry Shultz died in 1974. (Note: Ethel (Boomer) Shults McGowen's first husband William Henry Shults was my mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's cousin. (Boomer) Shults McGowen's obituary - Ethel M. (Boomer) McGowen, 82, died at 5:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Jersey County to Roy and Delia Ione (Gettings) Boomer. She married William Henry Shults Oct. 10, 1935, in Jerseyville. He died in November 1974. She married Walter E. McGowen Oct. 20, 1978, in Jerseyville. He survives. A homemaker, she was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville. In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter and her husband, Pat and Jim Rench of Jerseyville; three stepsons and their wives, Gene and Becky McGowen of Brighton, Mike McGowen and Tim and Tonya McGowen, all of Jerseyville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and four sisters and their husbands, Violet and Wilbert Fraley, Inez and Joe French, Naomi and Charles Webster, all of Jerseyville, and Eva McIntire of Rosewood Heights. Besides her parents and first husband, preceding her in death was a daughter, Shirley Schnieder. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Wilbur Cain officiated. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. (Reynolds) McGowen's obituary - Wilma A. McGowen, 85, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She was born in Woodville Township in Greene County, Ill., Jan. 28, 1924, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Lydia (Chapman) Reynolds. She married Lawrence "Mac" McGowen on Dec. 10, 1947, in Alton, and together they have shared 61 years together. As a young woman, she was employed in the kitchen and laundry departments at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, and later worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Mfg. in Alton. She also worked for Royce's Restaurant and Calhoun Care Center while she and her husband lived in Hardin. Surviving are her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Theresa McGowen of Jerseyville; a stepson, Robert D. McGowen, and his companion, Barb, of Jerseyville; one granddaughter and her husband, Kari and Matt Frizzo of Highland; three step-grandsons, Danny, and his wife, Hyeon Chu McGowen of St. Roberts, Mo., David McGowen of Arkansas and Duane McGowen of Mundelein; five step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; one sister, Charlotte Baglin of Troy; two brothers, Paul D. Reynolds of Collinsville and Larry R. Reynolds of Edwardsville. She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Figge, Thelma Miller, Waneta Pinnell, Esther Eggley, Harriet Reynolds and Doris Leffler; and one brother, Lloyd Reynolds Jr. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. Former Jerseyville resident Gladys (McGowen) Ames, 72, of Peoria, died Nov 19 at a hospital in Peoria. She was born in Jersey county to the late Edward and Pearl McGowen. Priest's obituary - Oren J. Priest, 74, died at 11 pm Wednesday, 20 June 1990 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was an electrician with the Alton Local, retiring in 1974, and was a self-employed auctioneer. Born in Scott County, he was the son of the Late Oren Earl and Nellie (Langford) Priest. He married the former Opal McGowen on 13 April 1940 in St. Charles, Missouri. Surviving are his wife, a son, Don Priest of Carlinville; three Brothers, Orie Priest of Wood River, and Floyd and Donald Priest, both of Florida; and a Sister, Evelyn Rodgers of Oklahoma. A brother, Clarence Priest preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Her burial was in Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. Joseph Vincent Richey Joseph Vincent Richey was born 7-5-1869, and died 3-10-1918 in Jersey County, IL. He was the son of John and Mary (Carr) Richey. He is buried at Armstrong Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Mary Elizabeth Springman 5-3-1903 in Jersey County, IL. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Anna (Seago) Springman. She was born 9-23-1885, and died 11-14-1950. She is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. After her first husband Joseph Vincent Richey's death she married Pearl Smith. Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith had 8 children-Joseph Vincent Richey, Earl C. Richey, Anna Alfretta Richey, Helen Richey, Nell Richey, Loretta Richey, Alice Richey, and Iva Richey. Joseph Vincent Richey was married prior to his marriage to Mary Elizabeth Springman to Minnie Hill and they had a daughter Ethel M. Richey. (1) Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's son - Joseph Vincent Richey, 69, of Jerseyville, died September 18, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. He was born November 12, 1918, in Jersey County, Otterville Township, the son of the late Joseph Vincent Richey & Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith. He married Ruth (Frazer) Richey December 5, 1942 in El Paso, Texas. She survives. He was a veteran of WWII Army 1st Clavary Div., artillery. He was employed 38 years as a mechanic and service man at Cordes Motor Company in Alton; retiring in 1980. He was a member of American Legion Post 492 and United Methodist church of Jerseyville. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Donna Kay Postelwait of Dow, Marsha R. Schroeder of Grafton; 4 grandsons; 1 g-granddaughter; 6 sisters, Nell Gowin of Granite City, Loretta Doerr of East Alton, Alice Parton of Dow, Iva Osburn of Jerseyville, Annie Osburn of Grafton, Helen Stocker of Bethalto. He was proceeded in death by 1 son, Michael Vincent Richey; 1 brother, Earl Richey, and 1 half-sister, Ethel Maroney. She married Joseph Vincent Richey Dec. 5, 1942, in El Paso, Texas. He died Sept. 18, 1988. A homemaker, she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Donna Kay and Urban "Buddy" Postlewait of Jerseyville, Marsha R. and Dale Schroeder of Grafton; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister and brother-in-law, Marcella "Mickey" and Eugene Steinkuehler of Jerseyville; and two sisters-in-law, Helen and Phyllis Frazer, both of Jerseyville. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Vincent Richey; and a brother, George E. Frazer. A retired farmer, born in Jersey County, he was a son of the late J. Vincent Richey & Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith. He married Alice (Kaufmann) Richey on January 16, 1928 in Alton, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife, are 5 daughters, Esther Searls and Doris Elliott, both of Medora, Dorothy Loy of Patterson, California, Joann Taylor of Collinsville, and Loretta Farrell of Alton; 1 son, Earl C. Richey, Jr., of Medora; 24 grandchildren; 23 g-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Nell Gowin of Granite City, Loretta Doerr of East Alton, Alice Parton of Dow, Iva Osburn of Jerseyville, Annie Osburn of Grafton, 1 brother, Joseph Vincent Richey of Jerseyville; and 1 half-sister, Ethel Maroney of Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. (3) Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's daughter Anna Alfretta (Richey) Osburn's husband - Clarence L. Osburn, 92, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Born on July 28, 1913, in Dow, he was a son of the late Dell Joseph and Blanche (Crandell) Osburn. He married the former Anna Alfretta Richey on Dec. 11, 1934, in Jacksonville, Ill. She died May 15, 1995. A lifelong farmer and trucker, he retired in 1978. He was a member of Otterville Baptist Church, where at the age of 41, he served as an ordained deacon, farm bureau director and on the Otterville Cemetery board. He was a member of the Grafton Full Moon Masonic Lodge 341 and Order of Eastern Star 990 in Calhoun. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley "Patsy" and Gordon Lueker of Otterville, Elizabeth "Betty" and Jim Henschel of Alton, Sharon and Bill Fleming of Alexander, Ark., and Phyllis and Lloyd Marshall of Grafton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Leslie Lueker; two sisters, Helen Hagen and Nancy Gowin; and three brothers, Pearl, Glen and Jimmy Osburn. (4) Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's daughter - Helen (Richey) Stocker died 10/16/97. Helen Stocker, 91, of Bethalto, died Oct. 16, 1997, in Alton Memorial. Her husband, Leroy, preceded her in death. Surviving are daughters, Barbara Faulkner of Brighton, and Connie Kates of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Iva Osborn of Jerseyville, Nell Gowin of Darien, and Alice Parton of Savannah, Ga.; and three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services were in Elias-Smith in Bethalto. (5) Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's daughter Nell Richey married a man who's last name was Gowin and they lived in Granite City, IL, and later lived in Darien, IL. She is deceased. (6) Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's daughter Loretta Richey married a man who's last name was Doerr and they lived in East Alton, IL. She is deceased. (7) Joseph Vincent Richey & Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's daughter Alice Richey was a well known Christian missionary in India for a number of years. She married a man who's last name was Parton and they lived in the Dow area of Jersey County, IL, and later lived in Savannah, GA. She is deceased. (8) Joseph Vincent Richey and Mary Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith's daughter Iva E. (Richey) Osburn's obituary - Iva E. Osburn, 95, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at Willow Rose Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville. She was born March 1, 1913, in Jersey County to Joseph Vincent and Elizabeth (Springman) Richey. She married William Ernest Osburn on Dec. 20, 1939, at Lakeside Park in St. Louis County. He died Nov. 4, 1995. She was employed at the Western for three years during World War II and worked for three years at the Principia. She attended Charity Christian Church in Jerseyville. Survivors include one son, Larry Clifford Osburn; one grandson, Charles David Osburn; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Anna Osburn, Loretta Doerr, Nellie Gowin, Helen Stocker and Alice Parton; two brothers, Earl and Joseph Vincent Richey; and one half sister, Ethel Gray. Visitation will be from 9 until time of services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate. Memorials may be made to Charity Christian Church or American Cancer Society (9) Joseph Vincent Richey & Minnie (King) Richey's daughter - Ethel M (Richey) Gray, 95, of Marshalltown, IA, former Jerseyville resident, died July 17, 1988 at Grandview Heights Nursing Home. Services were held July 19, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr John Hargrafef officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery, near Melbourne. She was born June 15, 1893, in Story CO to Joseph V & Minnie (King) Richey. She was reared and educated in Story CO, and lived in Denver, CO and Spencer before coming to Marshalltown in 1965. She was first married to Dennis Moroney, and later married John Gray. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society. Mrs Gray was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, 2 children and 1 brother. Surviving are 1 brother, Vincent Richey; 6 sisters, Nell Gowin, Loretta Doerr, Helen Stocker, Ann Osburn and Iva Osburn, all of IL, and Alice Parton of Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
