Susie Snowflake

Growing up in Michigan was different than here in New England. I can remember as a child, the very first day that it would snow, one of the television stations would play a song. It was a little like todays videos only done in cartoon form. I would like to share it with you.

    Here comes Susie Snowflake,
    Look at her coming down.
Tap, tap, taping on your window pane
To tell you she's in town.

    Here comes Susie Snowflake
    Soon you will hear her say;
Come out everyone and play with me,
    I haven't long to stay.

If you want to build a snowman,
    I'll help you build one, 1 2 3,
If you want to take a sleigh ride,
Weeee on the rides on me.

    Here comes Susie Snowflake,
    Look at her tumbling down,
Bringing joy to every girl and boy,
    Susie's come to town.

I know that it is a silly little thing, but it does bring back so many happy memories. Like neighborhood snowball fights and the hot chocolate after. Like walking up to the Kressege's in the cold and the snow, to do a little Christmas shopping. They had a soda fountain there and we would always stop and get a cup of hot chocolate. They made the best. Building snowmen and forts to hide behind while we threw our snow balls. .

The following is from a website of a friend of mine. It just goes to show you what a silly little song can do.
Thank you Auntie Em. It is so nice to know that we can touch each others hearts even tho we have never met. And all of this thru the words of a silly song.
These words were taken from Em's web site.
You might think the story ends there, but it continues to Christmas Eve 1998. We were visiting my daughter and son-in-law and heard that silly little song on their TV set in the living room. I rushed into the room expecting to see the cartoon and found a music-only station playing Christmas songs, sadly, only a Rosemary Clooney recording with no video. Such disappointment...I had not seen that cartoon in many, many years! Continue with me into January 1998. . . Surfing around on the net on Yahoo! Visiting, for no reason at all, a graphics site. I wouldn't have known what to do with a graphic back then! *g* A link led me to another Christmas site. This one was special. It took me to a "silly little song that brings back memories"! And it also took me to my very first internet friend...AprilJuneBug. Her memories of that song were so similar to my own that I had to write her. I had never sent an e-mail either! *LOL* But I did it and I met a dear, sweet friend and shared some lovely memories of Christmases past. I hope that Suzy will work her magic in your life and bring back some fond memories for you too! You never know...she's magical!

Well my friends, Suzy is magical,it has happened again. It is October 2002 and I recently received a letter from a lady in Michigan. Here is what she had to say:
Hi. My name is Liz and I am from Michigan. I found your site and loved the page on Susie Snowflake. thank you!
When I was a little girl my grandmother had the 45 record. It was sung by Rosemary Clooney ( the actress in White Christmas)
When I was in high school, I too, used to go to Kressege's after school and I remember the soda fountain very well. The coffee was 10 cents a cup and served in those disposable solo cups. In the town I grew up in, there was also a Neisner's and a Woolworths too. They also had soda fountains. I used to love to get a Vernor's Float, or sometimes a chocolate coke. You probably will think I'm a little looney, but I had to write to you and let you know. Your little page touched something near and dear to me, which I hadn't thought of in a long time. Thanks again for the memories!
No Thank you Liz. You have brought me several memories of my childhood in Michigan. It is really strange how the words of a silly little song can bring people together to relive old childhool memories. God Bless the internet and friends like Em and I hope soon to be my new friend Liz. It sure can bring a lot of joy to folks.
