History:
Chester County, also the county seat, was named for Chester County
Pennsylvania. It was established in 1785 as part of Camden District, and
was later transferred to Pinckney District, it became it's own district
in 1800.
During the Revolutionary War, American forces under the leadership
of General Thomas Sumter, were defeated here at the battle of Fishing Creek
in August of 1780. The Americans were also victorious at Fishdam Ford in
November of 1780.
