A Quick Look Into Chris Cenci's Life
by Chris Cenci
On September 26,1975 I was born in
Syracuse,
New
York to my parents
Sue and Chip Cenci. When I was born we
were living in Manlius, NY.
About the time I was three we moved to
Oswego, NY so my
father could attend classes at the
SUNY College there.
I lived there for about six years until my family moved to my
permanent residence in
Minoa, NY (a suburb of Syracuse, NY).
I attended Minoa Elementary School for the next six years.
At my sixth grade graduation I received an award for being the best
artist. During elementary school I got involved in The Cub Scouts
then the Boy Scouts of America.
I also played little league baseball and
soccer. I was involved
in the youth choir at Trinity Episcopal Church, and I eventually
received a silver cross for my dedication to the choir for
five years. After Elementary school I attended Space Camp in Huntsville, AL.
When I got back I had my first chance to talk in front of a really
big audience. I spoke to the whole elementary school about
my experiences. It was quite interesting.
When I got into Pine Grove Junior High School I got involved in a
lot of new things. I started taking art classes like clay, painting,
and graphic arts. I have always enjoyed the arts and consider myself to
be pretty talented. During junior high, I was still in
Scouting, working towards my Eagle Scout Award. I also
started running on the Cross Country team and the Track team.
Although I was never the best, I had fun and got plenty of exercise.
I finished ninth grade and moved up to the High School.
High school is where I got to experience a lot. I was selected to take classes
through Syracuse University while in High School. I received six credit hours
for two classes that I did in High School. The program was called Syracuse
University Project Advance (SUPA). I was still running all
year round on the Cross Country team and the Track team. Over the Summers
I worked for my uncles on Staten Island, NY at Rudy's Catering Inc. I
helped them with the family business by working at the picnic grounds. I
was still involved with the church and scouting. During high school I
attended Happening, a church retreat. That is where I have met some of my
best friends. In June 1993, I graduated from high school with a New York State
Board of Regents Diploma and I also received my Eagle Scout Award from
the Boy Scouts of America. After high school I worked for Kinney Shoes in
the Fayettville Mall. When the summer was over I packed up my bags and
headed for Florida.
I decided to go to Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University because I knew it was the number
one school for aviation related study. I recently graduated from Embry-Riddle after studying
Aeronautical Science for 3 and 1/2 years. I started school in the
Fall of 1993. I am also completed both a Computer
Applications Minor and an FAA approved aircraft dispatcher program.
I was part of the Student Flight
Advisory Board, the Association
for Computing Machinery (ACM), and a member of the Crew Team. I
served as both the Secretary and the President of the Crew Team. I
was involved with the
Future Professional Pilots Association
(FPPA) since my freshman year, and
I was also involved with the sailing club at school. I put a lot of
time into my clubs, but the fun I got out of it was well worth it.
I have put a lot of effort into school by taking as many classes as I can.
On December 14th, 1996 I graduated from Embry-Riddle. That was one semester
ahead of schedule.
I took credit overloads (20 Credit Hours) and summer classes in order
to finish ahead of time. I enjoyed school and I can't wait to become a
professional pilot.
I have one sister, Cindy. She was married to Chris Barrus in May of 1995.
They now live in Minoa, NY with my parents. Cindy is a professional photographer, and
Chris works in the radio and television industry. Cindy currently works in
the Wal-Mart portrait studio in Auburn, NY. Chris is working for NBC (Channel
3 in Syracuse NY) as a camera man. I am very proud of both of them.
They had a child Kyle Christopher Barrus on
November, 2 1997. He has his own web page, created by his uncle (ME!),
you should check it out.
My parents work for the
Air National Guard, so I have been around airplanes for my whole life.
I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid, but I soon realized how few
people actually go up in space. I was also discouraged when the
Challenger blew up in January 1986. About the time I was in
Junior High I really wanted to be a pilot. That dream has never changed.
During the Summer of 1996 I was an intern with
Continental Airlines. I was able to learn alot about the workings of
a major airline. I also got some
simulator time in a Boeing 737. Being with Continental was a great
experiance for me.
After completeing my undergrad degree I started working on a Masters
in Business Administration. Although that was not my main goal, I did do
very well. During that one semester I also took classes to recieve both my
Flight Instructors Rating and an Instrument Instructors rating.
I completed my CFI and CFII ratings I worked for a short
time for my alma mater,
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Although that was a good job, I
decided around the time of Kyles birth to get a job somewhere closer to
home in the northeast. While visiting Kyle after his birth, I also spent
some time doing interviews for jobs in the New York Metropolitan area.
I was offered all the jobs I interviewed for, and decided to take
one at
Century Air, in Morristown,
NJ. I have been living on Staten Island for a year and three months,
and commuted to New Jersey every day. I enjoyed teaching at Century and
am made progress with more ratings while I was there. I
earned my commercial Multi-engine rating and my Multi-Istructor rating.
Recently I interviewed with a Airnet Express and was offered a
position. I will be traveling to Columbus, Ohio for a month of training.
After that I do not know where I will end up..
Ultimatley I would like to work
for a Major Airline someday. I am hoping that in a few years I
will be flying for some airline. If anyone is intrested in my
qualifications, you should read my
resume and contact me at
