Pick of the Month

Celtic Knotwork Design

This is one of the best books I've seen on this subject. It's very user-friendly; easy to understand instructions for doing your own designs. Click here for more!

Clues in the Calico: A Guide to Identifying and Dating Antique Quilts
by Barbara Brackman

Ms. Brackman's is considered THE guide for dating quilts, but read the book for it's entertainment value. You'll learn as much about our history as about how quilts reflect it.
Quilts From the Civil War
by Barbara Brackman

Another wonderful book from Barbara Brackman; this one includes ten projects based on Civil War era quilts, a discussion of the history of quilting during the era, and diary entries from quiltmakers.
The American Quilt: A History of Cloth and Comfort 1750-1950
by Roderick Kiracofe

This photo-filled book has long been considered the best book for amateur quilt historians. Makes a great gift for quilt lovers and history lovers alike!
The Quilter's Ultimate Visual Guide
by Ellen Pahl, Ed.

This has become one of my favorites, both as a reference book and just to browse through and learn from. Techniques are arranged in alphabetical order, and each technique is covered by a different expert quilter. You'll enjoy finding many of your favorite quilting instructors, designers, and authors! All explanations are accompanied extensively with photos, illustrations, and diagrams. A must for the serious quilter!
Quilting Design Sourcebook
by Dorothy Osler

This book is for you, if you are looking for unusual old quilting designs. These are from Great Britain - many originating in Celtic culture. Most can be adapted for machine as well as hand quilting.
Hearts and Hands: Women, Quilts and American Society
by Elaine Hedges, et al.

This book will teach you to look at quilting in a new way - not only old quilts you collect, but the ideas incorporated into contemporary ones. History buffs will love learning the ways we used quilts to speak for us at a time when our political voice was limited or non-existent.
