Help pass the Religious Freedom Amendment

Since 1962, prayer has become an illegal activity in the public schools of America. The academic, social, and moral problems have steadily increased since that time. Perhaps it is no wonder that we are seeing the terrifying events, such as we have been witnessing in the past few months.

On Thursday, June 4, 1998, the House of Representatives of the United States of America will begin proceedings on a vote for a Constitutional Amendment to allow prayer back in schools. This is not something to force all students to pray Christian prayers. And this is not even something to force all students to pray at all. This is simply to make prayer legal again...so that students who want to pray will be able to do so, no matter what kind of prayer they choose to pray. This amendment will also make it possible to see the Ten Commandments in a public place and even to place Nativity Scenes on public property.

This is the first time since 1971 that the issue has even come before Congress. For years, Christians have been complaining because prayer was made illegal in schools. Now, its time for us to do something about it. To get the official details on this amendment visit http://relifiousfreedom.house.gov. But be sure to bookmark this page first, so you can come back and send ALL your friends.

        What Can We Do?
We are calling on people all over the United States to start calling their representatives in Washington, D.C. We are not asking for only Christians to call. Remember, this potential Constitutional Amendment will make it legal for students to pray in school. Christian, Jewish, Mormon, Muslim -- in fact, ALL students will be allowed to pray in school if this amendment is passed. As Christians, we believe that there is power in our prayers. We are not afraid to allow other groups to pray their own prayers. We encourage others, even of different faiths to pray. We do not believe or support the hindrance of anyone praying. All we ask is that we be allowed to pray, as well as be afforded the same opportunity as others of differing religions. It only means that we are confident that our prayers will be answered, just as Elijah's prayers were answered on Mt. Carmel.

Please call your elected official in Washington. They should all have local numbers in your area. If you aren't sure of the location of their local office, call your local newspaper or public library for the local phone numbers. You may be well advised to call both the local and the Washington, D.C. office about this important matter. You may also elect to send your representatives an email or a telegram.

This about thisAs a Christian, you can never complain about prayer being illegal in school again, unless you do your part now.

When you call your elected officials, let them know that you expect them to vote for the Religious Freedom Amendment if they want your vote the next time they are seeking re-election. Start calling right now and keep calling through Thursday. Waiting until Thursday to call will too late.

When Should You Call? You can call during regular office hours...but you can also call during "off hours". Most of the offices should have an answering machine for you to leave a messages. Let's have their answering machines full every morning when they get to work between now and Thursday! :) As someone said on television, we should try to "drive them nuts" with all the phone calls. The congressmen are supposed to listen to what the voters say. So, we should give enough phone calls to let them know that we mean BUSINESS about this issue. If you do not know who your representative is and/or how to contact him/her, please go to http://www.house.gov/writerep. At this site, you can enter your state and zip code and it will pull up your representative and the contact information for him or her. If you can find an e-mail address...then by all means, also send e-mails. Check here for some e-mail addresses. But don't substitute e-mails for phone calls. Sometimes e-mails are not taken as seriously as phone calls.

Also, you can call the toll-free number 1-800-361-5222 and choose the number for the House of Representatives, then choose your Representative. This number is actually a toll-free number that rings in Washington D.C.

BUT WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

There is something else that you can do, too. And you can even help us here, even if you don't live in the United States. Please pass this page on to everyone you know. If you have ICQ, or AOL Instant Messanger, or POWWOW, or anything like that, PLEASE send this page to everyone on your list. Please send this page to everyone in your e-mail address book. And to make matters easier, you can simply click the button to refer your friends to this page. After clicking the button, you will then be asked for their e-mail address. Then they will receive a message asking them to visit this page. Even if you don't live in the United States, please forward this page to everyone you know. Because you probably have several friends who DO live in the United States.

Another thing you can do is to print this page and pass it out to all of your friends who do not have internet accounts. Spread the word around. :)

And finally one last thing for webmasters. Please consider placing this simple banner on your page to link your visitors to this page. You can simply "cut and paste" the source code below the banner.
