William Brewster, born around 1500, William registered to pay taxes 1524 in Bentley, Arksey, Yorks, England. He married Maude Man, their son- William, b. 1535, d. 1590, m. Mary (Simkinson) Smythe (#902 & 903) their son- (Elder) William Brewster, b. 1567 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England, d. Apr-10-1644 at New Plymouth MA, m. Mary Wentworth (#900 & 901) in 1591 in Scrooby,Yorkshire. Her b.1569 in Scrooby Manor, Yorkshire England, d. Apr-17-1627 at New Plymouth MA, her father: Thomas Wentworth; (#904). After receiving his degree from Cambridge University, William became the private secretary to Sir William Davison, Secretary of State to Queen Elizabeth. He succeeded his father as the Postmaster at Scrooby, until 1607. William has been dubbed the leader of the Puritan exodus to New England. The Mayflower arrived in Plymouth, Cape Cod bay, on November 9th, 1620. He was the oldest of the Mayflower passengers who celebrated the first Thanksgiving, in October, 1621. It was really a unique event; the Pilgrims did not celebrate the next year, or any time thereafter. The Thanksgiving holiday was not born until President Lincoln declared as such in 1863.
