Hello. My name is Katie. Whether you've found our page by accident or on purpose, we welcome you.
We make our home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, in a small town referred to as "Tree City USA". Our town is big enough to be on the map, but our biggest claim to fame is having the world's only squirrel bridge. This bridge is located close to downtown on a street with a high squirrel mortality rate. It has been featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not.
We moved here from the land of smog and traffic in 1980, two weeks before Mt. St. Helens blew it's top. Even though we lived with the ash and threat of flooding for years, we would never want to make our home anywhere else. When the rain starts getting us down, we think about the brown sky and blaring horns heard in traffic jams in which we had to commute and the glorious green that we presently call home, and we are thankful for the rain.
I was employed for 17 years for Legal Aid. I spent my days helping battered woman and children get out situations where they endured years of sexual and/or physical abuse. I was a victim of domestic violence and could relate to our clients on a personal level. We also dealt with many "slumlords" preying on senior citizens and low-income families. It was a very stressful, yet rewarding job. Due to federal budget cutbacks, we lost our funding and our office was closed leaving a real need in our community.
I am now employed as a legal assistant to a private attorney.
She is not only a great attorney, but she is a wonderful person. She fights like a she-devil for our clients, and is also a wonderful healer who takes care of our clients' emotional needs as well as their legal rights. I am very proud to be working with her.
I am married to a wonderful man named Mike. We have two daughters, ages 26 and 15. I know that may seen like a long stretch between children, but it's been wonderful. It is almost like having two "only children". We also have two beautiful grandsons who are a joy and so much fun.
Our youngest daughter, Emily just finished her junior year in high school and a serious piano student. Last year she won first place in the District Contest and had the honor of playing at Pacific Lutheran University in the Honors Recital. This is quite an accomplishment for someone who is just entering her fifth year of study. This year she will be playing a Rachmaninov Prelude, which has been her goal for several years. This is the music you are hearing now. She has her own little space on the Net which we are in the process of rebuilding because of a major crash. Also please check out her poetry page.
