Well enough about me. I said that this page was going to be dedicated to my angels. Missy and Bashful are Siamese Mix female kittens. They were born July 24, 1996 on the back shelf in a friend's garage. The first five to six weeks of their lives they did not know about humans or cat food. They hissed and ran every time someone came near. At the age of six weeks, I drug them crying and scratching from the shelf and they came to live with me. It took them a while to adjust, but they have become my babies.
The first weeks were for getting to know them and pick out names. Bashful got her name because she spent most of the first couple of weeks hiding behind the washing machine. Today she is friendly and outgoing. She greets visitors by smelling their cloths and possessions. Missy got her name because no name seemed to fit her. For two weeks she was simply Sissy. I did not want that name to stick, so I started calling her Missy since it sounded so close. Today she is the smaller cat, but the most intelligent. She responses to her name and will interactively play. Their favorite things are kitty treats and little furry mice.
After having the girls for a week, it was time to visit the vet. They were infected with almost every parasite that a kitten could contract (ear mites, hook worms, tape worms, fleas, and our favorite ring worms). They lost some of the trust they had gained because they had to be medicated twice a day for three weeks. Then it was back to the vet for more shots. Their ringworms still didn't look good and we continued to treat them for another week. Our third trip to the vet found more ringworms and it was back to treating them.
A week before Thanksgiving, I came home from work to find Missy was very sick. I rushed her to the vet. She was dehydrated and had to stay overnight. The vet speculates that she ate something that didn't agree with her system.
Santa brought the girls new collars, a bed, treats, toys, and a kitty carnival for Christmas. Missy played a mean trick on Santa that you can read about on my Smart Kitty page. Missy was also Miss Escape artist. She hated her collar and would unbuckle it at every opportunity.
Both were spayed at the age of six and half months. Missy being the typical problem child tried to remove Bashful's stitches. Bashful and mom were both unhappy with that episode. Bashful scared us for a while because she refuse to eat for two days, but the third day she was back to business as normal. Missy tugged at her stitches to much and did not heal as well as she should have and developed a lot of scar tissue. The good news is that it is already starting to shrink and should be normal real soon.
That brings me to the goal of this site: I want to provide you with a list of link and resources that I found helpful when I first brought them home and a list of sites that deal with the problems they experienced.
