        ~ GENERATION ONE ~
        SOLOMON & MARY CHRISTINA MCCLAIN

        My McCLAIN Family line has been traced back to SOLOMON MCCLAIN who died in Barnwell, S.C. in 1815. He was married to MARY CHRISTINA (???). To them were born ten children:
        1. Solomon McClain, Jr. who married Laney ???
        2. Elizabeth McClain who married James Bentley
        3. Rebecca McClain who married John Kearsh
        4. Mary McClain who married Lewis Moore
        5. Prudence Moody McClain who married Joseph Holley
        6. Rachel McClain who married Nathan Stenson
        7. Hansford McClain
        8. Ransfort McClain
        9. Rosiffa McClain
        10. Charity McClain who married Edward Southwell
        Solomon McClain's will was dated June 9, 1814 and recorded in Book A, pg. 192 on August 12, 1814 at Barnwell District, S.C. His wife, Mary renounced her share to her children on the same date. Solomon's will was proven on July 15, 1815 and recorded on May 2, 1816 in Deed Book 1, pg. 302 in Barnwell District, S.C.



        ~ GENERATION TWO ~
        SOLOMON and LANEY (???) MCCLAIN

        SOLOMON McClain married LANEY (???) and nothing further is know of him at this time, except they had a son also named Solomon who was born in 1812 in Barnwell, S.C. They are believed to have died shortly after arriving in Appling County, Georgia.


        ~ GENERATION THREE ~
        SOLOMON and EMELINE (STRICKLAND) MCCLAIN

        Solomon McClain was born in Barnwell, S.C. in 1812. He moved to Appling County, Ga. with his parents who died shortly after their move to that county and was reared by his Aunt Charity (McClain) Southwell and her husband, Edward Southwell, who had already moved to Appling County. It was here that he met and married Emeline Strickland, a daughter of James and Cynthia (Evers) Strickland, also of Appling County. Solomon and Emeline had ten children:

        Around 1867, Solomon McClain killed his son in law, Robert Touchton. He disappeared from Appling County and it is not known what became of him. His wife and children relocated to Charlton County about 1875 and lived there for many years. Emeline McClain died there on November 6, 1895 and is buried at Trader's Hill Cemetery.


        ~ GENERATION FOUR ~
        HENRY RAIFORD
        &
        MALINDA ELIZABETH (STRICKLAND) MCCLAIN

        Henry Raiford McClain was born September 22, 1842 in Appling County, Ga. He married in 1866 to Malinda Elizabeth Strickland, a daughter of John and Dicey Jane (Ogden) Strickland of Appling County. After marriage, they lived near Odum, Ga. where he farmed. After the birth of their third child, the family moved back to Charlton County and lived there until his death on September 9, 1895 in Charlton County, Ga. He is buried at Corinth Primitive Baptist Church in Charlton County, Ga. Henry Raiford McClain served in the Confederate Army from Charlton County, having enlisted as a private in Co. A, 29th Ga. Infantry, Capt. W.W. Billopp's Company, The Georgia Foresters. He enlisted at Savannah, Ga. under Lt. Col. Rockwell for the duration of the war. He was discharged March 8, 1864 at Charleston, S.C. It is believed his mother made a two week trip and drove a team of horses from Charlton County, Ga. to Charleston, S.C. to bring him home. Henry Raiford McClain was shot during an argument between himself and his nephew, also his son-in-law, Marion McClain. Marion was not charged. Henry Raiford and Malinda Elizabeth (Strickland) McClain had:

        ~ GENERATION FIVE ~
        FLORENCE MALINDA MCCLAIN
        &
        COLONEL ABRAHAM MARTIN

        Florence Malinda McClain was born June 6, 1886 in Folkston, Ga. She married July 14, 1914 to Colonel Abraham Martin who was born April 9, 1880 in Kearney, Buffalo County, Nebraska, a son of Morgan F. and Mary Ann Martin of York County, S.C. After the unexpected death of her husband, Florence struggled to raise and support her children. She is remembered as being a good, kind woman by her children. Colonel was crushed by a dry kiln door which weighed several hundred pounds at Hiers Planing Mill in Waycross, Ga. in April 1925. He died on June 22, 1925 as a result of those injuries. She died April 11, 1961 and is buried beside her husband at Kettle Creek Cemetery, Waycross, Georgia. Colonel and Florence had five children:

        2. Myrtle Agnes b.03-09-1910 d.03-05-1966 md. Earl Youmans and James Paul Hendricks
