The earliest contemporary record we have found naming our ancestor is that of the marriage of William Woodmansee, age 23, of Oakfield, Genesee County, New York, to Louisa Johnson, age 19, of Waterloo, Seneca County, New York, by Rev. S. B. Woodworth on June 24, 1849, at Fayette, Seneca County, New York. On October 25, 1850, they were listed by the census-taker living in the household of N. T. More in Seneca Falls, New York: William Woodmansee, age 23, tailor, born New York state; M. L. [Woodmansee], age 19, born New York state. They were listed as having married within the census year, i. e. between June 2, 1849 and June 1, 1850.
Mary Louisa Johnson was born on September 10, 1830, in New York state, and probably at Utica. Her parents' names are listed as " --- Johnson" and " --- Burton", and both were also born in New York. William and Mary Louisa had two children who survived to adulthood: Amelia L. Woodmancy, born January 26, 1851, at Syracuse, New York; and George C. Woodmancy, born April 25, 1853, at Utica, New York.
A search was made of the city directories of Syracuse and Utica for the years 1850 through 1860, but William Woodmancy's name was not found. His whereabouts from the birth of son George in New York in 1853 to birth of daughter Cecelia in Michigan in 1857 are unknown.
Mary Louisa (Johnson) Woodmancy re-married about 1860 to William Henry Hoskins, of Manhattan township, Lucas County, Ohio. William Hoskins was born about 1830 in Bangor, Maine, the son of William & Mary M. Hoskins. He died in North Toledo prior to 1874. By this marriage there were at least four children, born in Toledo, Ohio, surname Hoskins: 1) William Henry, Jr., born about 1861; 2) Charles Herbert, born in January, 1863; 3) Frank E., born August 24, 1869; and 4) John Clifford, born in February, 1872. Mary Louisa (Johnson) (Woodmancy) Hoskins died at her home at 324 Machen Street, Toledo, on March 3, 1924, and was interred in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkeley, Michigan.
