Wood Working Projects
Shadow boxes and military retirement projects
The US Air Force chevron shadow boxes on the right are my design.  I used to sell these for $125 to $200 (or more), depending on material and other options. But I'm currently too busy to make them for sale.

->Left:  Chevron military shadow box for AF SMSgt retirement with  squadrons coins.  Cherry wood.  3 x 5' US flag on top. Scrolled flight wings.

->Middle:  Large Chevron shadow box for AF CMSgt retirement in oak w/ squadron coins.
5 x 8' US size flag on top. Scrolled US Eagle

->Far Right: Same large Box after flag and medals installed.
Walnut box (unfinish)       Same box finished       Another finished box
Above: Pre and post finish US Army chevron shaped shadow box in walnut for 3 x 5' flag.  Same basic design as an USAF chevron shadow box, only it has a rounded bottom.
Right: Chevron Shaped Military Shadow Box for a USAF Chief's retirement.  Made out of walnut wood with natural satin poly finish.   Shape of USAF Chief's rank.  Used Gov Seal as pattern for scrolled eagle on top (taken from a Gov website).  This was an early design, and the first chevron shaped shadow box I made.  No squadron coins or US flag went in this box--just medals, ribbons, ranks, patches, etc.
Above: Rectangle shaped military shadow boxes in cherry wood
Left:  Red, White & Blue Flag Box with squadron coins; another retirement project. The blue'ish flag box and white'ish portions are maple. Blue'ish tint from aniline stain, white'ish tint from wood bleached.  Red'ish base is natural blood wood.  Coins visible from both sides as is the flag (it's very difficult for me to fold a flag that looks good on both sides).
Col Whitehurst's Swordcase
Right:  Swordcase, Cherry Wood.  Toughest part of this project  was figuring out how to make the wooden latches that could rotated around without showing any fasteners.
Home furniture projects
Right: Double Bed made from Yellow Poplar I built for my son. Patten from WoodSmith Magazine. Natural finish with satin poly.

Below:  Corner table made to match kitchen table's theme.  This was really my wife's design, I just follow directions as she described what she wanted.   Stained Basswood--painted flowers.
SW Style Wastepaper Basket in Cedar
Cedar Magazine Rack and Waste Basket (natural finish with satin poly).   Rack has a different SouthWest style figure on each of its four sides (cut with scroll saw) & waste basket has a scrolled steer skull.  These were truely  start to finish projects--from cutting trees thru sanding and finishing:
   - After cutting trees with a chainsaw, I let the cedar dry out for two years.
   - Used
IntelliCAD (a great FreeWare CAD program) to help me design these simple projects
Entryway table (mahagony).  My own design. Used  IntelliCAD to draw pattern.  Sunburst on table ledge made from scroll saw angled at 6 deg.  Thread pattern on legs made with a 3/16" radius Point Cutting Roundover router bit.

I use a PC to help generate designs such as the scrolled photo and the name plates shown here.  I use Ulead's PhotoImpact software

To make the scrolled picture below I begin with digital photo file then use PhotoImpact to adjust the file's properties until I create the black & white pattern.  Then I place the pattern on the wood and cut out the portrait.
