Linda's Family Quilt's

This is my son Randy with the very first quilt I ever attempted. I had sewn for years and decided I wanted to make a quilt like my grandma used to! I purchased an instruction book, selected fabric and set to work. The method I chose looked rather simple; piece and layer the blocks and quilt them before assembly. "What the heck;" I could do that! Of course I knew nothing about squaring your blocks and perfect quarter inch seams. I ended up with a bunch of finished blocks that were not close to the same size. End of project, I put them away and took some classes. Over the years, my son wanted to know when I was going to ever finish his quilt. So for Christmas 1997, I dug it out, stretched, tugged, pulled and even swore mildly, but I managed to finish it for him. I began the project when he was 14 and finished it when he was 28 years old!!

My Daughter Anita

Anita has a bedroom that has a striped wallpaper and a large floral border. She wanted a quilt that would compliment her scheme of hunter green and burgandy without being gaudy! After much thought, I decided upon a "YoYo" coverlet. This queen size project is entirely hand made. I fondly refer to it as my "Packer Quilt;" because I made it while cheering on my beloved Green Bay Packers!! She has gotten raves from everyone and it makes me proud to have my handiwork praised. A helpful hint for anyone who may make a yoyo quilt top;Cut out several extra circles of each fabric and put them in a baggie. If any of the circles become damaged or come ungathered, it is much easier to replace than repair. Also, if you have leftover thread, include it with the packet. This will assure that all needed repairs will match the original project.

My grandaughter Melissa is all snuggled with our dog Raven in one of my favorite quilts. I was involved in the exchange of six inch squares and managed to amass a quilters dream. (Many, many colors and shades.) These had to go into something special, which is what this quilt turned out to be. I like the compliment of light and dark triangles. Depending on how you look at the quilt, it is squares or triangles. This is kept in the family room to ward off those Wisconsin winter chills while watching TV. I have spent many winter evenings wrapped in this quilt and dreaming of an early spring.

Look at that grin!!

My daughter Cindy with a lap quilt I made for her as a Christmas present. I found a ready made packet of pattern and fabric at a quilt shop, really liked it and took it home. I had never quilted with flannel and am not sure I ever will again. It is a very stretchy fabric and hard to work with.

Not only that, I left many drops of my blood in the fabric as I hand quilted this piece. The thicker fabric is very difficult to push the needle through, resulting in numerous stabs. There is a plus! It is an exceptionally warm quilt! Makes for a very nice "snuggle."

I have since made her a Baltimore Album Quilt which is an incredible amount of work and will display it in the future.

I hope you have enjoyed my page of quilts. I will change the pictures from time to time. There are many other quilts I have made and wish to display. There are also many quilts I still plan to make and some are in the "unfinished" stages.
