Hallam Square, is an historical novel written by Anna Jacobs (pen name for Sherry-Anne Jacobs and Shannah Jay) and published by Hodder & Stoughton in July 1996. It forms book four of the Gibson Family Saga, a five part saga set in the nineteenth century in industrial Lancashire. Hallam Square starts in AD 1858 and revolves around the life of Annie Hallam. Johnny Cash, the singer who died in 1998, stared in the 1980 Movie "The Pride of Jesse Hallam", a 105 minute television production of a proud man who was forced to confront his illiteracy when he and his family move from their farm to the big city. "Hallamshire: The History and Topography of the Parish of Sheffield in the County of York" contains historical and descriptive notices on the parishes of Ecclesfield, Hansworth, Treeton, and Whiston, and of the chapelry of Bradfield. The book, which contains background on the origin and history of both the village of Hallam and Hallamshire, was written by Joseph Hunter (1783-1861) F.S.A., edited by Alfred Gatty, and published in London for the editor by Virtue and Co. in 1869. "Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania" J.H.Beers and Co., 1997. Text of "The Hallam Family" was transcribed in March 1997 by Theresa Hallam of Akron, Ohio as part of the Beers Project. However, it should be noted that this transcription contains a number of important errors. David Hallam, the former member of the European Parliament has recently published his first book entitled "Eliza Asbury - her cottage and her son". It is an historic account of Francis Asbury's mother who left England in 1771 to set up the Methodist Church in America. There are several books on Hallam genealogy in the Mormon Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Some of them have been microfilmed and can be borrowed through the Family History Centre. They include: "Oviatt-Hallam Family Tree" written by Mary Oviatt Spiekermann in 1970 (US/CAN Film Area, 0874300 Item 1). The book covers ancestors-descendants-related families of Frank and Grace Hallam-Oviatt. "The Carlton Family" by Richard R. Carlton, 1985 (US/CAN Book Area 929.273 C197cl) which consists of a history of East Kent, Tilmanstone and Long Point, Illinois since 1610. The Hallams of Livingstone County, Illinois, are covered in the book. "Curtis Family Records" have been preserved by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City on 35 mm microfilm reel (US/CAN Film Area 0983673 Item 22-23). Richard Curtis married Sarah Lambert Cathrine Hallam in 1833 near Grayville, Illinois. "Henry and Hanna (Guest) Kitchen of England and Their Descendants in America, 1835 to June 30, AD 1979" written by Carol Bernice Roloff, 1915 (?) (US/CAN Book Area 929.273 K647f; US/CAN Film Area 1321238 Item 2). The book includes the families of Hallam, Severns, Tolley, Zalnor and relatives. "Bowen-Field-Nimmons and Kindred Families" written by Nora Deniza Nimmons Field, 1882 (US/CAN Book Area 929.273 B675fn). The Bowen Family emigrated from Wales as Quakers about 1698 to Pennsylvania. The book includes reference to the Hallum (Hallom, Hallam) and related families. "The Tatler Family: A Family Genealogy" written by Roger (Charles) Tatler in 1936 (British Book Area, 929.242 T188tr). The book is based on 20 years of research into the Tatler Family through the counties of Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Hampshire, London and throughout England. The book includes reference to the Bourne, Buckley, Hallam, James, Shenton and Whalley families. |
