Here is a little bit about what I had gone through..
At the age of 12, I became hearing impaired. I'm not deaf, just have a hearing loss. This started with an unknown virus and getting very bad migraines. I was also getting a green fluid out of my ears and couldn't hear very well.I went to my family doctor and doctored for several months. I was on different kinds of medication and had to go back almost weekly.
My family doctor told me I had a hole in my eardrum. So.. after several weeks/months of doctoring with him. He decided to send me to an ear doctor.
There, I had found out why I couldn't hear. I had lost 100% of my hearing in my left ear, and 50% in my right ear! Not only did he tell me that needed hearing aids. He also told me... that my eardrum and the 3 bones in my ear ( the hammer, the anvil, and the stirrup) had crystallized and dissolved. That's when he told me I HAD to have surgery... or I would go brain dead. So... about 3 weeks later I had my first surgery. I was VERY sick the whole time I was in the hospital. The doctor was even afraid that when I'd move my head or anything I might jerk what he had just done out of place. The dressing on my head had to be changed everyday. Durring this time, I was still getting Very bad migraines and very dizzy. At times, I'd have to stop and sit down cause I would get so dizzy. While I was going through this. I had to stop many things. Two of the things I had to stop was dance lessons, and babysitting for a while. Anything and Everything I would do.. I would get dizzy. The dizzier I would get, the worse my migraines would get. As time went on, the doctor gradually increased the amount I could lift and do.
At another doctor appointment, I was told I was starting to heal nicely, but.. I had to have a second surgery 6 months later. Durring all this, I had also lost another 25% hearing in my right ear. My second surgery was to remove scar tissue, put a very tiny blue draining tube in, and restore some of my hearing. I did get a lot of my hearing back, but I'm still considered hearing impaired. With the help of my hearing aids, (pink and blue) I can usually understand most of what is being said. :)
Through all of this I have learned how it feels to be left out, how to communicate with the deaf, and how to understand the deaf and hearing impaired. The Best thing I have learned through all of this was going to a Christian Deaf Camp and learning how someone has always had something worse than I have. That is where I gave my life to the Lord and was baptized. I've also learned to be greatful and count my blessing for what I have, and not feel sorry for myself. Now I need to move to phase two and decide what to do with my life! :o)
I had been a Nanny for a lady with 6 children - the second youngest is autistic. I took care of 2 girls several nights/mornings a week. Also had taken care of 5 other children. Also I had been a care-giver to an 87 year old man who is paralized on his whole right side and can't talk much due to a stroke 9 years ago. However, now I'm a Nursing Assistant, and a Independant Beauty Consultant
