More about Curt
Curt was born (7/25/55) and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The second of seven boys born to William and Nancy, he grew up in a large,
caring family. Growing up in a large, male-filled family, he also
learned to compete...especially for attention. Though often successful
in competition, Curt now considers it a demeaning, ineffective form of
communication that is less healthy and less effective than cooperative
interactions. That is one way in which he goes against societal norms--there
are many others. Curt is unafraid of being different. His employment
and formal schooling backgrounds can be found
in Curt's
resume but perhaps the best insight into Curt that can be gained
in a short time is through reading a paper he wrote entitled "My Most Important
Roles in Life and How I want to Be in Them". The paper was inspired
by Stephen Covey's book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
My Most Important Roles in Life
and How I Want to Be in Them
Human animal
I am an intelligent, witty, compassionate, gentle vegetarian animal
with a reverence for health and life. Through internal and external
travels I strive for ever greater awareness of self and others and I invite
and challenge others to do likewise. I am empowered to make choices
in all areas of my life and I accept the responsibilities and consequences
of doing so. I am committed to self-improvement, flexible in most
matters yet uncompromising in what I value. Though uncompromising,
my non-competitive attitude channels my energy into seeking and finding
win/win situations yielding mutually beneficial results. Believing
in the unattainability of knowledge of “truth”, I avoid certainty, acknowledge
my errors and mistakes, hold beliefs tentatively, am tolerant of different
views and opinions, and skeptical of claims to knowledge. I am able
to, and frequently do, laugh at myself. I live a balanced life as
a fully functioning human being; attending to my physical, mental, social,
and emotional needs and wants.
Husband
I am a loving, devoted, understanding husband who helps Missy achieve
her desires and extend and fulfill her potential through attentiveness,
being available, enabling and protecting her solitude, romancing her, and
by gently inviting growth and modelling health. I rejoice in her
love.
Father
I am a loving, enlightened, responsible, empowering father who spends
enormous amounts of time in mutually beneficial play with my son.
I learn much from Eric, enjoy his company, and grow as a person, father,
and friend through our interactions. I strive to help him learn,
have fun, and grow in similar ways.
Son
I am a loving and respectful son who is sensitive to Bill and Nancy’s
wants and needs, thankful to them for the way they parented me, and I encourage
and facilitate their growing healthier.
Brother/Friend
I am a loving brother and friend who shares and am confided in because
I am open, honest, understanding, and have high integrity. My high
energy, enthusiasm, sense of humor, insight, supportive and non-competitive
nature make my friendship a trusted, desired, and loved one for people
of any age or background.
Co-owner of Alternate Healthier Choices
I am a successful, resourceful, and opportunistic home business co-owner.
I am able to provide for a desired standard of living for my fiscally conservative
family through intense “play”, diligent research, and a commitment to excellence.
Our family’s business has helped significant numbers of people make alternate
healthier choices in their lives.
Creator
I am a brilliant, creative, artistic, and humanistic creator.
I am able to draw on, combine, and apply skills and awareness from diverse
fields as I insightfully create through the written and spoken word, paintings,
drawings, and sculptures.
IBMer/computer scientist
I am a skilled and insightful computer scientist with IBM, committed
to quality and excellence in all my professional efforts. I am capable
of thoroughness in minute details of technical work and while focusing
on large scale issues and concepts. I strive to learn from my co-workers,
surface and resolve conflicts within my teams, maintain an infectious,
refreshing, childlike attitude, and make workplace interactions enjoyable
and enlightening even while challenging.
