"Uncle Gary" as Garrity calls him was a regular on our moose hunts. Although barely visible on the tree between them, Gary carved Garrity's initials on a tree while building our tree stand. It made quite an impression on a 7 year old boy as you can see to the right |
Garrity carved initials for the whole family while awaiting the arrival of a bull moose. His first set was DF for Dad Fabich. And of course there was a FF for Floyd also. A boy and his knife. Garrity has my first hunting knife that was given to me by his uncle Hank on my first years hunting trip. |

Some of Garrity's carving. DF stands for Dad Fabich. |
A rather unique carve on a tree that had a strip of dead bark. It was a good way for Garrity to pass the time away quitely. |

With a birds eye view Garrity and Jenna are more concerned about what was to eat next than the fact that they were two stories up in a tree! Dad is there anything more to eat! |
Sitting back and enjoying the fall colors between snack preparations. I thoroughly enjoyed the hours spent waiting. |

Garrity and I hunted most every night afterwork and weekends from about the 10th of Sept to the 30th. We worked hard at getting Garrity his first moose. But it wasn't to be. I did pass up a bull one morning while trying desperately to get Garrity into position with a good rest. It was a Saturday morning when a bull and a cow with two calves pinned us down in the grass on the way to the rest. Bull moose are only so patient even in the rut. |
We abandoned the tree stand late in the season for a different approach. Although I do not like hunting on the ground if I don't have to, we chose to visit a meadow that had a lot of sign until the season ran out in our area on Sept 25th. The bull and cow never returned after our initial encounter.:0( As you can see hot cocoa was a must on all trips. Garrity delited in drinking it through a red licorice straw.:0) |
