This beautiful buck was harvested by my cousin, Tim Daley, who lives in the Calais, Maine area. The buck field dressed at 195 lbs. and held a respectable 7 pt. rack. Congratulations Tim !!Here is the story in Tim's own words. Enjoy !
Story of 2000 deer
It was the last day of the regular firearms season and I was sitting on a deer trail that had plenty of activity on it. The temperature was a brutal 8 degrees. I got to my spot around 6:00 a.m and was settled in for the morning. Around 7:45 I noticed a partridge flush from the ground about 150 yards in front of me. As I was scanning the trail I noticed a large bodied deer with its head down making its way across. I brought my .270 featherlight to my shoulder and the crosshairs came right on the deers head and neck area. I could see it was a decent buck and he had stopped in the trail. Looking through the scope I could see the buck lift his head up high with nostrils flared hoping to catch the scent of a hot doe. I took careful aim and touched one shot off behind his shoulders. When I fired he immediately hunched up and just lunged out of sight. My good friend Mike McArthur was with me that morning and we waited about 15 minutes then went to look for blood. When we got to the area where he last was Mike looked up into an opening and seen him lying there with antlers gleaming in the sun. He had only gone 20 yards before he expired. He was a beautiful 7 pt. Buck with a 19.5” inside spread and tall tines and weighed in at 195 lbs. On one side of his antler base there was a bullet graze where he had been shot at earlier that season. I guess you could say he was lucky once but not twice.
