HOSEA SMITH b. 05-NOV-1773



This is a copy of the family history of Hosea Smith. Hosea was born in Pasquotank, NC and mirgrated to Pike County, IN. Below is his history copied from his handwriting and other family members. I come from the union of his daughter Theophilia Smith and Charles Alexander. Later in time I will include transcribed copies of wills and other family history.

Some words are hard to read, and others are omitted. In place of the words, I will inclose dahses.

When I arrived at the White Oak Springs on the 5th day of June 1810, Then Indian Territory now State of Indiana Pike County 1844. I now commence to give some account or record of my family. Seeing the great neglect of the human family which is so great afault in the world of that branch of business -- so many Thousands of families at this time have no knowledge of their Existance or fore fathers by neglect of not keeping a Book of Record but few People can tell any thing further back than their grandfathers or granmothers and that mostly by hear say, no record to show at this ----- I now commence to write. I suppose my grandfather Joseph Smith was born about the year of our Lord - 1780 about 63 years old he was one ------ first setters setted in North Carolina Perquimans County he setted on the Cypress Springs near the Cypress Bridge where it emptied in the Pasmaqody Bay.

My father baught afterwards, amongst first setters Isaac Lamb setted on the oppisite side - my grandfather - brother Samuel Smith setted hier up the swamp, on the same side setted John Saunders and Abraham Wilson between Isaac Lamb and Samuel Smith.

My father - John Smith was born in the year of our Lord 1745 and died in the year of 1797, livein about 52 years - - - -

My grandfather married Sarah Jourdan and his brother Samuel Smith married Leah Jourdan her sister - their brother Jacob Jourdan has a long Family in Chowan County by his first wife when they came from England they landed in Virgina not knowing that time precisely.

My Father married in Pasqoutank County where I was born the plantation lay on the head of the Great Flatty Creek where my Grandfather Abraham Hosea setted. After the death of my mother Lovey Hosea, my father married a second time Mary Simons, she dying and leavein one son called John Smith then moved to Perquimans County on Pasmaqody Bay

and lived with his mother, and baught the land a Cyprus Bridge and there built a large house and his third wife Widow Cannon on Chowan river living but a few year and died he then married fourth wife a young woman and left her a widow and several children her name was Marry Elliott -- our births as stands recorded - - -

Hosea Smith son of John Smith and Lovey his wife was born the 5th day of November in the year of our Lord - 1773 and 6th Day of the week -- In North Carolina Pasquotank County

Huldah Harrell Daughter of Silas Harrell and Mary his wife was born the 2nd Day of April in the year of our Lord 1774 - - In the Sate of Virginia name --------- County.

Huldah Harrell was first married to (Jonathan) Wilson had one Daughter, Penninah. Penninah Wilson Daughter of Jonathan Wilson and Huldah his wife was born --------------

Hosea Smith and Huldah Wilson was married the 4th day of March in the year of oour Lord 1798 - in North Carolina Perquimans County - and set out for the west on the 10th day of April - and came to the White Oak Springs on the 5th day of June 1810, Indian Territory.

Ages of our children--

Theophilia Smith Daughter of Hosea Smith and Huldah his wife was born on the 11th Day of December in the year of our Lord 1792 and 3rd Day of the week in North Carolina Perquimans County -

Saxony Smith Born December 27th 1800 died in 11 days old

Henry Smith, son of Hosea Smith and Huldah his wife was born the 27th day of May in the year of our Lord 1802 on the 5th day of the week in N. Carolina Perquiman County.

Onias Smith son of Hosea Smith and Huldah his wife was born 3rd Day of Feby (?) in the year of our Lord 1805 and 1st day of week in N. Carolina Perquimans County.

Warren Smith son of Hosea Smith and Huldah his wife was born 2nd day of February in the year of our Lord 1811 on the 7 day of the week in the State of Indiana then Territory at the White Oak Springs then Knox County.

Hosea Harrell Smith son of Hosea Smith and HUldah his wife was born October 31st in the year of our Lord 1816 - Indiana White Oak Spring - Pike County, Established in the year 1817.

Huldah Smith wife of Hosea Smith Departed his life the 22 day of June In the year of our Lord, 1845 Sunday Eve oclock Aged 71 years 2 mo & 20 days.

Bin Married the Last time 47 years 3 mo 18 days Leaving 5 children - - - - 29 Grandchildren 10 great grandchildren - - - 44 - - - the number in for at this date = including all together 5 -------- lived at the White Oak Springs 35 years ----------
