• when you call the wrong number but you talk for 20 minutes anyway;
• when the bank lets you use counter checks;
• when you are still a newcomer after you have lived there 15 years;
• you can see someone standing at the other end of town and you know who it is;
• when you don't use turn signals because everyone knows where you are going;
• if you are not in church on Sunday, the preacher prays for you to get well;
• when you know all the people and all the dogs -- and they know you;
• when you are a visitor and everyone knows whose wedding or funeral you came to attend;
• when everyone waves;
• when the really nice house belongs to the banker;
• when there is a teacher in the high school who: teaches algebra, geography, and Spanish; coaches volleyball, basketball, track, and softball; and is the senior class sponsor.
