Welcome to my Web site!
With the help of many others I have traced my family back to 1640.
There are still records of Pateman before this date, but I have failed to link them to my
own line. My family roots are in southern Cambridgeshire, on the border with
Hertfordshire. For generations we occupied only a few villages around Steeple Morden.
We then moved out to Hitchin, and then to Essex. My Grandfather, Frederick James Wesley,
was born in Hitchin, but his birth was registered in Chrishall, near Saffron Walden in Essex. Frederick, like many generations of Patemans before him, was a butcher.
All the information I have gathered can be found in my RootsWeb
database:
Here are some photographs from my Pateman family archive:

Here I am, on the day of my christening back in 1949 in Ongar, Essex.
My mother, Gladys (nee Weeden, 1920 - 2001) is holding me. Behind are my paternal
great grandmother Louisa (nee Corby, 1857 - 1956) and
maternal grandmother Florence Weeden (nee Staines, died 1966). |

My father, Douglas (1918 - 2006), on a day out with his mother Ellen (nee Bloom, 1886 - 1933)), and
grandmother, Jane Bloom (nee Pidgeon, born 1865). |

Frederick James Wesley Pateman (standing) my grandfather,
(1882 - 1971).
Bert Corby (brought up as Pateman) sitting (1888 - 1924).

Ellen Pateman, nee Bloom (1886 - 1933). My grandmother. Photo taken
ca 1912. |

James Wesley Pateman, (my great grandfather, 1861 - 1928). Alderman of Saffron Walden in Essex when this photo was taken. |
 |
In the 19th Century there must have been links with the town of Leicester,
as these photographs of my great, great grandparents were taken there. (James Wesley,
1827 - 1917 and his wife Anne, nee Kirbyshire, 1837 - 1899)
