Dortha's World
A
Tribute
Mom was a
loving, caring,
gentle woman with great
strength and a deep faith. She and Dad had three
children, Peggy, Patty and Philip. Dad was
sick for a long time and mom worked and cared
for him until his death when she was 65. Mom
loved to travel and saw a lot of the United
States and Europe. Because of her own illness,
she would plan these trips between chemotherapy.
China painting was mom's hobby and I have included
some of her work below for you to see.
Her signature was the pink rose.
After her death, we found some poems she had
written throughout the years and I have included
a few of these on this page also. I just had to
include the one she wrote on my first birthday!
Mom just loved Phantom.
I hope you enjoy the music as much as she did.
And I hope you enjoy Dortha as much as we did.

Birthstones
I've a precious necklace which I own
Set with a myriad of precious stones.
It started at first with only a few
But down through the years it slowly grew.
I wear it unseen against my breast
And it touches me and is caressed.
The warmth of it's radiance fills my heart
For each gem of love, right from the start.
The children gave it for me to wear
And with it their love for me to share

Her 80th Birthday

A Second Opinion
Today's advice we are asked to take
Get a second opinion before you make
Any decision on what to do
That which is best for you.
When my soul is troubled and I can't find
An answer in my doubtful mind
I turn to God for I've known all along
His second opinion is never wrong.

Youth
Pursue not youth and hope to hold
it for yourself for youth is bold.
He flies the mountain tops to soar
With eagles, flapping wings aroar.
And the song he sings, this joyous youth
Is only of knowledge to speak the truth.
Bring down this joy when you reach
The valley 'neath' the mountain peak.
Shining bright it may help you find
Some of the youth you left behind.

dabbled at water colors, too.

A Walk With Rachel
My First Great-Grandchild
Looking up at me you raise your
arm and say "Nana, walk".
And I reach down and grasp your little hand
To steady you as we walk down the road.
We stop to smell the flowers
Waving gently in the breeze and
Softly stroke a kitten curled
up lazily in the sun.
Your unbounding joy in seeing these wonders
bounce over you like the sunlight
dancing on the leaves, and the world I
thought so old becomes young and new again.
Your little feet are almost running now
So eager you are to rush ahead
While mine, admittedly slower, grudgingly move on.
As we, the alpha and omega, a continuity
walk down the road toward infinity.

Patti's First Birthday
With eager hands you help explore
The heaps of bundles on the floor
Tied up with ribbons bright and bold.
Darling, today you're one year old.
The little dresses you toss away
With matching socks upon them lay.
The doll you look at, first askance.
Then pass it by without a glance.
There doesn't seem to be a thing
Among these presents that can bring
A radiant smile upon your face
Of happiness there's not a trace.
But now your eyes light up with glee
You hold it up so we can see.
You start to laugh...now this is funny.
A shiny, cheap tin toy bunny!
