Dear Friends,

In the heart of Beer Sheva, city of our forefathers, we have established a small but vibrant modern orthodox community of approximately fifty observant families, many of whom immigrated from English-speaking countries (U.S., England, Canada, South Africa). Our congregation first gathered in a local school before joining forces with a dwindling minyan of elderly Hungarians who had a small building of their own. Seven years ago, we embarked on an expansion project which resulted in the construction of a new women's section (adding roughly 50% to the existing space). We have been blessed with more growth in recent years and find our limited space insufficient for our blossoming congregation, which now boasts weekly classes, a charity/emergency loan fund and special, intimate services on the Sabbath and holidays.

In order to meet the needs of the present while looking towards the future, we have embarked on an ambitious project to double the area of seating, rennovate the restrooms and kitchen and turn our functional but spartan shul into an attractive, comfortable, modern synagogue. The members of the congregation have contributed generously towards this project. However, given the financial realities of life in Israel, we will be unable to realize our goal without appealing to friends like you for additional support.

Abraham first planted the seeds of Judaism in Beer Sheva nearly 4000 years ago. Today we seek to cultivate the fruit from those seeds and create a garden that all of the Jewish people can take pride in. Won't you lend a hand?

Donations of any amount will be deeply appreciated. If you would like to have a loved one's name memorialized in the city of our forefathers, a plaque may be prepared for the Rambam Memorial Wall for $180. Rambam Synagogue Patrons will be recognized on a special plaque for those generous friends who provide gifts of at least $2,500. Pictures of the completed building will be sent to donors of $180 or more.

Write checks or money orders to Young Israel of Great Neck, Chesed Fund, with a note that the money is earmarked for the Rambam Synagogue, Beer Sheva, Israel. Money can be forwarded to Mr. Aaron Wachspress, S. Wilbur Dr. Great Neck, N.Y. 11021, phone 1-516-773-4298, e-mail: aaron@nacmind.com.

It is written (Talmud Berachot 64a):
Rabbi Elazar said in the name of Rabbi Chanina: The learned spread peace in the world, as it says: "And all your children learn from the Lord" and "Great is the peace amongst your children." Do not read "your children" but rather "your builders".

It is only through building places of worship, study and community gathering that we may build a road to true peace.

We thank you for your kind support and invite you to visit us in the near future.
