Memory Lane

Growing up in California as a kid during the 60's was a fantastic time. Hot Wheels just came out and they (the cars) were toys that we bought with our saved up allowance, knowing that they wouldn't be worth a thing in 30-40 years...The Little Red Wagon was a real hot-rod that ran out at Irwindale Raceway, before the Miller Brewery bought the place. The Adams Family was on TV. I remember the 210 (Foothill) freeway being built, the sound of the pilons being driven into the ground, "kaching, kaching". The daily sonic booms from the airforce bases, the pilots steering their rocket planes faster than the speed of sound. The Helm's Bakery man stopping in the middle of the street, selling baked goods to the housewifes while they congregated and gossip'd. Black and White TV was the norm and Air Conditioning (as we know it today) was unheard of in my neighborhood. Spaghettio's were the hit, along with Pixie sticks. Channel 13 was KCOP, a "Chris-Craft" Station (the Boat company?). We had air-raid drills once a month and we'd "Tuck and Cover" under our school desks in case of an earthquake or atomic attack. The year 2000 was to bring cars that floated, complete automation in the workforce by robots, TV phones and time machines. Well, we did succeed in part of it and some of it I'm glad that we didn't succeed in.

Thanks to the web, I am able to go back to a simpler time and place. I hope you too can find the kid in yourself once again. As I find more stuff, I'll be sure to include it. If you can think of something that you'd like to see, e-mail me and I promise to find it for you if it's out there..
