Jessie James Story

JESSIE JAMES'S STORY

I am a (golden retriever) and my name is Jessie, Jessie James, that is.

My Holiday wish to you is of golden dreams, loving family and treats and snacks as much as you wish. My holiday wishes are also for all the kitties and doggies of the world to be in a home as loving and caring as I have. There are so many out there lost, tired and sick, in shelters and in foster care. Please if you can open your heart and home to a loving pet, do so, it would be my dream to have each and everyone warm and safe for the holidays as well as the rest of their days. Santa if you are listening please help all the fuzzbutts out there, they need loving too.

My mom and dad thought long and hard about the best name for me. Jessie James seemed to suite me.

I was born January 10, 1994 in Mesa, Arizona. My mom and dad were just recently married and my dad was going to give my mom a golden retriever for her birthday in March. When March came along they found me. I had 8 siblings. By the time mom came to get me there were only two of us left, me and another brother. She knew I was the one, I was rambunctious, sweet and smiled very happy because I knew this was MY MOM AND DAD forever.

We rode home in what they called a car. I sat on my mom's lap loving the feeling I got. Not only a warm feeling from my mom but also from the car. I knew they would both be a great thing for me. It has turned out to be one of my favorite things to do... going for rides with my mom.

When we got to my new home I found out I was going to get to go inside the house. In my first house we stayed ONLY outside and that door always shut us out, I hate doors that keep me OUT. My dad built me a door so I could go in and out all the time. As soon as he cut the piece out of the door, I was IN AND OUT and IN AND OUT, I love it.

I loved my new life with one exception. Mom and dad leave me everyday. Mom told me that she and dad leave to make the bacon so I can eat and have toys and bones. I don't get it, the cookie jar always has treats and the cubbard always has food.

My mom says that golden's would enjoy living their life in mud... I'd say that is partially true... It would be 35% in mud, 45% getting loving, 10% eating and 10% sleeping.

See my friend Dex who lives outside of Washington, D.C. This was his Easter photo, prefering MUD versus Easter finery! he he

I haven't explained in my story that I am a big guy. Bigger than almost all golden's I've met. Even when mom and dad picked me up I had potential. Mom said I had tree stumps for legs and feet that were very large. I grew like this:

3 months - 10 1/2 lbs

4 months - 22 lbs

5 months - 35 lbs

6 months - 48

7 months - 64

11 months - 82

NOW - 115
(depending on how many cookies I've received for being a good boy. :-)

I'm big, some call me a moose, but my mom's favorite nickname is big Galoot, but she uses that term with endearment. She always kisses my face when she says it, so I don't mind. Even though I'm big I understand it is very important to be safe around little children and gramas. They aren't always strong enough for me to lean on or run with.

Mom and dad taught me manners and I'm all the better for it. I learned that being so big I couldn't greet people by jumping on them. My parents also taught me that you could sit in front of someone and put your front paws on their tummy or legs and get belly or head scratches. Mom says I am a gentleman and I think that is right.

Things I like:
mom and dad Swimming
Pizza Crust Riding in the Car
Company (especially if they bring
doggies with!)
Running in the park
Being near my mom,
no matter where
Being the guard dog protecting
my family from all evil
Cigars (my rawhide treats)

Things I hate:

Thunder and Lightning Little doggies kissing my mouth
Getting my ears cleaned or
my feet furr trimmed
Mom leaving without me
A bath in the tub T h e M A I L M A N
go lay down words (that
means no more scratches)

Mom decided after I got old enough (9 months) that I needed someone to play with and they found a girl golden, she is now my sister Sadie Lou .

We just recently found another guy to live with us, Grinning Gilbert, he is a golden retriever like me, but he will be a small one.

We also have a cat brother, ROCKY, he is very handsome.
