Mom: Tawney
Baby: Maggie Mae
Weight: 7 lbs. 6 oz.
Birth: Fast active labor, help from epi god.

Posting that my water had broken was the last thing I got to do before heading to the hospital. I had waited 2 hrs since I wasn't having contractions and took my time, ate some ice cream, did my hair etc... Needless to say they really chewed me out when I got there that I hadn't raced over right away. Well contractions were still pretty puny an hour later so they started the Pitocin drip. They doctor ( who does his own epidurals) had told the nurse to give me two hours and then he would come in and give me the epi. I was already at 5 cm by this time and having to breathe. I told her about my last delivery and that the Pit makes my contractions on top of each other and I went from 4-10 in 1 hr last time. So she called the doctor back. Sure enough, after an hour, I was really hurting with no breaks between contractions. Doctor got there and got the epi in. Instant relief! Ahhh the epidural god, what a great name for it. I rested all warm and tingly for about another half an hour and then started feeling pressure down low. They decided they might want to check me and by golly, there was the head crowning. They panicked and tried to find the doctor. I pushed for about 20 min, had a really great nurse who teaches the lamaze classes, and she was ready to come out. They made me hold her in for about 5 min until the doctor had scrubbed, then he came and caught her. She had such a small head that I didn't even tear! What a change from my huge boy with stiches all over! The neatest thing is that they talked me into using a mirror to help with pushing and I got to watch the whole delivery. It was utterly fascinating and I wasn't grossed out at all, just in awe. Maggie came out covered in vernix and totally gross looking but I was in love! They cleaned her up and she started nursing immediately. I hate to say it but I don't have a horror story to tell, it was a fabulous, text book experience and my doctors and nurses were great. I would do it all again. Even breathing through the contractions was great, knowing my body was bringing my daughter to me. She has been a great baby so far, and except for having to have her frenula under her tongue clipped we've had no problems. I wish you all the best of labor experiences and pray your babies are as healthy and beautiful as can be.
