The Proposal

Her story: It was January, 1997, and I was getting a little sick of being in the city. I had recently started my new job with GE Capital Consulting, and the stress of that had me itching to get out of town. So I decided to do something about it.

George had the weekend off from his job at Petsmart, so I made plans for us to go to the Afton House Inn in Afton, MN, only about 20 min. away, but far enough out of the city to matter. So on Fri. night, off we headed. We checked into our room, which was c ute little place filled with antiques, and went down for dinner at their in-house restaurant. It was an excellent meal, but very expensive! After dinner we headed back up to our room and sat and watched TV for about an hour. At 10:00, George walked over and turned off the TV. He came around the side of the bed and gave me a card, which was absolutely adorable. Then he reached inbetween the matress and box spring, pulled out the ring, and proposed! Needless to say, I was surprised (we had picked out the ring, but I thought it was on layaway), but excited and said yes.

The remainder of the night was not the greatest, but humorous to look back on. I was really sick to my stomach, our bed was terrible, and the hallway was noisy. But you can bet we'll go back there! The next day we just drove around, hitting Stillwater, MN and a buffalo farm northeast of the Cities.

I'll let George tell you how the ring almost got stolen!

His story: Still to come!
