• I am currently preaching for the Southside church of Christ, that meets in Lake Charles, LA. For more information about the church, click here! We have been here over three years and really love it. The congregation averages 32-33 and is VERY friendly. They have never met a stranger, and if you leave without feeling like part of the family, then you must have run out the door as soon as the "Amen" was said. They desire "Book, chapter, and verse" for all that we practice and teach. If you are ever in our neighborhood (just a mile and a half south of 210 in Lake Charles), please drop in. You will be glad that you did. Stop by when you can.
  
• In the last year, I have held several gospel meetings. In October 2001, I held a meeting in my hometown ... Merritt Island, FL at the N. Courtenay church of Christ, where Jere Frost preaches. In March 2002, I held a meeting in Austin, TX, where Ron Lehde preaches. At the end of April, I preached in a weekend meeting near Richmond, VA (Rivermont church of Christ), where Bob Swain preaches. I have just been contacted by the congregation in South Austin to see if I can preach a summer meeting there.
  
• Before I began preaching, I spent 9 years in the United States Navy as a missile technician. I was stationed on the USS James Monroe SSBN 622 (a nuclear submarine that has since been decommissioned.) The last 3 years were shore duty, and I was fortunate enough to be stationed in my hometown (well my hometown since I was 7) of Merrittt Island, FL. I was born in Oxnard, CA to a navy man, so until he retired, we moved around. In fact, although I don't remember it (I was 3), we lived in Kodiak, Alaska when the earthquake hit in '64!
• While living in Merritt Island (stationed in Port Canaveral), I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Professional Management though a cluster program from Nova University.
• I met my future wife at the FC Lectures. A good friend (Alan Piner) convinced me that I needed to go, and I'm glad I did! For more information about Bettye, click here
• We were married August 10, 1990 and immediately moved to Temple Terrace, FL so that I could learn more about the Bible in their Upper Divsion program in Biblical Studies. I had decided that I wanted to preach and felt I needed to learn more.
• I accepted my first full-time work in Cleburne, TX with the Caddo Street church of Christ. (I had preached part-time in St. Cloud, Brandon, and Lake Wales.) We moved to Texas in June '93.
• I came to Leesville in February '96 to work with the White Park church of Christ, on Highway 8. The work there was a very rewarding work. Attendance when we left was around 100. During the last year and a half that we were there, numerous men volunteered to help the church in Lake Charles by preaching for them on Sunday mornings. This effort not only helped the church, but also helped the men to develop their public speaking abilities. Jeff Henderson is the preacher there now.
  
• I am a big sports fan! I especially enjoy playing sports. While at FC, I played softball as often as I could. I also enjoy tennis (loved playing with Brad Sims while in TX) and racquetball (loved playing with John West in Bossier City, LA). I try to stay in good shape by working out, playing racquetball or tennis now with my good friend Paul, (and not eating too much - though that's sometimes a problem --- especially here in Lake Charles --- have you ever been to "Hong Kong" for Chinese???)
• My all-time favorite college football team is the Florida State Seminoles. I enjoy watching them when we can get them. Go 'Noles! Believe it or not, some of our good friends are Gators - fans! GO 'NOLES!!!! If you want to listen to their games, you might go here.
  
• My favorite baseball team is the Texas Rangers. While living in Texas. my wife converted me!!! (I was a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan!) We like to keep up with them by going here!
  We were able to go to a few ball-games a year (at the old stadium and at the new ball-park.) In fact, we were able to see Nolan Ryan pitch one of his last games (ON OUR ANNIVERSARY!) Best of all, we were at the PERFECT GAME that Kenny Rogers (not the country singer, but a pitcher) pitched!!! We have three signed ticket stubs for that game!!!! (Think they'll ever be worth enough to send Andrew to college?????)
• My favorite pro-football team is NOT, and I repeat NOT the Dallas Cowboys .... Bettye couldn't work her magic on that one!!!! (My father-in-law just told us that they were considering changing their name to the "Dallas Oppossums" ... you know, they sleep at home and get run over on the road???) My favorite team is (of course) the TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (I'm from Florida, aren't I?) They were doing pretty good this year too!!!! (Well, so far......)
  
• I do not like to watch golf (or play it!) It is too slow for me! (Saves $$$$$, huh?) Andrew, however, loves golf. His Aunt Becky gave him a housewarming present --- golf clubs !!! He loves them, but it's all I can to to keep him from "chipping one" over the couch. But I do enjoy watching him have fun golfing on the computer, Nintendo, or with the new set.
  

• Back to serious matters, I am eternally greatfull for the influence of godly men in my life! To name just a few: Bobby Holmes, Tom Roberts, Jere Frost, Alan Piner, Larry Hafley, Stan Cox, Jerry Fite and countless others. God knows their names, and that's what counts.
