Patches and Water
This is Susan and Patches hanging out by the pool
last summer.
Susan had had surgery on her arm, and wasn't able to enjoy the pool,
which suited Patches just fine, since she didn't have to spend hours trying
to get Susan out of the pool.

Patches is definetly a dog that does not like to get wet, at all!
We were a little worried about her in the yard with the in-ground
pool. We were afraid she would be jumping in all the time and
we would end up with a tear in the pool's liner. Could we have
ever been more wrong!
We had gotten Patches during the winter, so we didn't really find
out how much she hated water until spring. One morning she woke me
up to let her out (oh the joy's of being woken up by a cold nose at 5:00
am) anyway she led me downstairs to the door which I opened for her and
it was pouring out. She took half a step out the door, looked at the rain,
and the fact that her foot was getting wet, turned and looked up at me
as if to say, "Hey what's up with this?" and backed up and sat down behind
me. It was as if she was going to sit and wait until the rain stopped!
We began to realize little things that she would do to avoid getting
wet. We have a vaction house up in Vermont, and Patches loves it up there.
It's also when she is leash walked the most often. Well anyway, we had
taken Patches for a walk one day and it had rained earlier, so there were
puddles. This may be common, but it blew me away as all of my other
dogs always loved to get wet, muddy and dirty. Not Patches! She walked
around the puddles, and if she did get any mud on her, the moment we got
home she would have to spend a good hour or two grooming herself to clean
it up.
It's actually a very good thing that Patches grooms herself like
a cat though because as you can imagine bath time is not a fun experience
for her or us!
