Today is November 26, 1997 and last night I asked Susan to marry me. (Of course for no other reason than to give Patches a real family)
No, Susan and I have been dating for almost 3 years now and I wanted to show her just how much I do love her.
We were up at my family's vacation house in Vermont, and last night we went out to dinner at "The Inn at Willow Pond" which is a great little place for a romantic evening. The people there are wonderful. I had never been there and when I called to make a reservation I told them what I was planning to do, and the gentleman described the dinning rooms as all being small with fireplaces in each, and he told me he would seat me in our own dinning room.
Well, we sat right next to a fireplace, and before dinner I ordered a bottle of champagne and proposed in a cute, clutsy kind of way. I guess no matter how many times you rehearse something like that it never comes out quite as planned.
I had succesfully kept my intentions for the evening a secret and Susan was extremly surprised, and I think she might have thought I was even joking a little ( we have that kind of relationship ), until I put the ring on her finger.
Susan said yes, and we had a wonderful dinner, (which I don't think either of ate more than a few bites of).
