Cosmos are truly stellar. Easily started from seed, they provide a riot
of color in the garden and armfuls of flowers for bouquets.

Feature these ten varieties in a corner of your backyard.

I've grown Cosmos for years, and they self seed so readily I take it for
granted that I'll have them on hand--to fill in a border or cut for
bouquets--from May through October. They became more dear to me a few
years ago when I got some new varieties. Some such as the Versailles variety, have especially large plants and flowers. For small borders there are now dwarf cosmos in the Sonata series. They come in an array of pinks and white.

Sow seeds indoors, or outside when the soil has warmed. Plant or thin seedlings 12" to 18" apart, in full sun and average, even poor, well-drained soil.
