That is one of my favorite questions. Friends have many different shapes and sizes, and come in all varieties. That makes their uses just as diverse. To simply have companionship is our most common request. Sharing time in amusement or leisure is often more enjoyable with a friend. Education is far more effective with a study "buddy". It seems warmth and support from a friend enhances almost any experience. Sometimes friends can not only offer the emotional support that strengthens relationships, but a helping hand as well. Barnbuilding parties are traditional gatherings in the name of helping their friends build barns. Neighbors join together to build parks and playgrounds. If you are an accountant and your friend is a carpenter, often you will help him with tax concerns and he fixes your chair when you lean back too far and break the leg. No money echanges hands, just friends happy to help one another. There are other times when you call upon friends for favors that relate to their patricular knowledge or experience. This can often be an extension of ones own employment. It can take on the form of a really great bargain on different goods or services. There are instances when your friends may suggest solutions you were not even aware of based on geography and culture. |
