KNOTTS ISLAND ELEMENTARY ~ Home of the Wood Ducks
Nestled in a "Sportsman's Paradise"
Knotts Island Elementary combines the nostalgia of a one-room schoolhouse with modern technology to create a truly unique learning environment for students from Kindergarten - Sixth Grade. The picturesque campus is situated between Martin's Orchard & the Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge.
The KIES marquee, erected with PTA funding, boasts our proud mascot, the Wood Duck. The mascot was designed in 1995 by sixth-grader Ronny Lawlis, with technical assistance from local wildlife artist, Gary Freeman. An endowment from popular artist Bob Timberlake established an art gallery to showcase pieces from NC artists.
