Running, being beaten by the rain
He upsets an unwanted, cast-aside scrap
Which flips and squirms in pain
And slips down the grate into crap
Travels and tumbles with impact
And falls to the ocean floor
To become a mere artifact
For all but humanity to ignore
Millions of moons to come
Some excavator will unload
That priceless scrap that came from
The forgotten man, walking down the road.
The man still presses onward
The rain harsh against his face
Pulling his jacket forward
Causing sight of others to erase
A young lady walking by
Could endure no more of this
Ran home and began to cry
For every ignore and dismiss
She killed herself that night
After that one final straw
Of the man who didn't give hindsight
To that woman that he saw.
That same man, now several paces ahead
Releases the bottle from his hand
Which falls quick as if were dead
Shattering as he planned
Hours from now a courier on this street
Will puncture his tire on a shard
Will lose control and will unseat
Plunging fast and hard
Cars brake and swerve
Killing, but cause untold
Of the man's nerve
To throw his bottle in the road.
Every action of this man
Had a consequence
Although not done in plan
Or meant in offense
He will never know
If the truth be told
What others will undergo
Because he walked down the road.
Handling It
With a voice piercing like a thousand needles
As the rain fell in sheets upon my face
I cried
You cannot change me no matter how hard you try
I can take no more
I shouted
I'll put up with you, I won't bail out
Why don't you see it my way
I sat down
I need a break; this is all too much
It's just not getting through
I sighed
I'm voicing again what you didn't hear at first
And as the rain beat down
I stopped my thoughts
I took a deep breath
I stood up
Enter Slowly
Standing outside lined up
Waiting to be beckoned forward
Brings memories of stories of
Cattle herds traveling all
In one fluid movement, mindless,
Thinking only of surroundings, not
How it would be if things had
Been reversed. Herds and herds
Of humans marching
Side by side squeezed up
Next to one another flanked
By cattle along the sides.
