Vince Lombardi was born and raised in a Italian family in New York. After graduating high school, Lombardi went to Fordham University and later into professional coaching. He started his professional coaching career as an assistant with the New York Giants and from 1959-67 Lombardi was Head Coach and General Manager of the Green Bay Packers. He directed the Packers to 5 NFL championships, including the first two Super Bowls.
One of his most famous decisions came in the 1967 Ice Bowl against the hated Dallas Cowboys(obviously nothing has changed)when on 4th and Goal from the one he went for a touchdown instead of a game tying field goal. Bart Starr sneaked into the endzone behind crushing blocks from Jerry Kramer and Ken Bowman and the Packers advanced to their 3rd consecutive Championship game, and second straight Super Bowl. Two weeks later GB dominated the Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Lombardi's Last game.
Nowadays Vince Lombardi is remembered as the saint who watches over the Packers. We remember Coach Lombardi for his famous quotes(See Below). The NFL Championship Trophy is named after him. He is remembered as the best and most influential coach in Packer and NFL history. With Lombardi at the helm the Packers were established as America's Team and Titletown USA.

Lombardi Quotes

Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing.

The will to excel and the will to win, they endure. They are more important that any events that occasion them.

It's not whether you get knocked down. It's whether you get up again.

Winning is not a sometime thing: it's an all-time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing...

The quality of any man's life has got to be a full measure of that man's personal commitment to excellence and victory, regardless of what field he may be in.

Football is a game of cliches, and I believe in every one of them.

Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.

Second Place is meaningless. You can't always be first but have to believe yu should have been -- that you are never beaten, time just runs out on you.
