To fly a microlight aeroplane solo and unsupervised with
or without a passenger you must be in possession of a:
Private Pilots Licence (Restricted) Microlight
known for short as the PPL (R) Microlight.
Obtaining the PPL (R) Microlight requires the
following:
- That you are at least 17 years of age.
- That you are in possession of a valid medical
'Declaration of Fitness' certified by a medical practitioner.
- That you are able to speak and understand basic
English
A student normally takes about 15 hours of flying
instruction before he/she can fly solo and another 15 hours thereafter to be
able to sit for the Flight Proficiency Test which is used to gauge your flying
ability.
Ground school comprises Aerodynamics, Engines,
Navigation, Meteorology, Air Law and Radio Telephony. Before PPL (R) Microlight is
issued, you are require to pass Air Law and Radio Telephony. Radio Telephony
comprises a written and practical test to gauge your ability in
communicating by radio with Air Traffic Controllers and other pilots.
Written tests for Air Law and Radio Telephony are mainly in objective
format.
The Kelab Penerbangan 4B Malaysia charges RM150.00 per
hour of flying instruction.
