New York, NY (Sports Network) - The NHL is going to file a grievance over a work-stoppage clause in San Jose Sharks' captain Owen Nolan's new five-year contract. Nolan inked the contract, which is worth $6 million, with the club in October.
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche have lost right wing Adam Deadmarsh for an indefinite amount of time, and the team also learned Thursday that center Chris Drury will be out of the lineup for six-to-eight weeks.
Edmonton, Alberta (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday that they have extended the contract of goaltender Tommy Salo through the 2003-2004 season. The team also has an option on an additional two seasons. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Toronto, Ontario (Sports Network) - Forward Darcy Tucker signed a contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday. Terms of the deal were not revealed.

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay Lightning center Brad Richards has been named NHL Rookie of the Month for October. Richards led all NHL rookies in scoring with 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists) in 10 games. He notched a point on 35-percent of the Lightning's goals this month.

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins named Mike O'Connell as the team's general manager on Wednesday, and also promoted Jeff Gorton to be the club's assistant general manager.
Harry Sinden, the Bruins' GM since October 5, 1972, is stepping down as general manager, but will retain his post as team president. O'Connell, who has been vice president of the Bruins for the past three seasons, becomes only the sixth GM in the team's 77-year history.
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Phoenix Coyotes netminder Sean Burke has been named NHL Player of the Month for the first month of the season. Burke registered a 7-1-1 record, a 1.54 goals-against average, one shutout and a .950 save percentage, leading the Coyotes to their best start in franchise history (9-1-0 in 12 games).

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Dallas Stars goaltender Ed Belfour pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest stemming from a scuffle with security at a hotel bar back in March. Belfour was sentenced to two years probation and fined $3,000 by Dallas County Criminal Court Judge Phil Baker. Additionally, Baker ordered Belfour to visit two area high schools to warn students about the dangers of alcohol. Belfour apologized to the four Dallas police officers who arrested him that night and vowed to never again put himself in a similar situation.
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Weeks after being given an 18- month conditional discharge for the well-publicized slashing incident during a game last year, Marty McSorley met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman Tuesday about reinstatement. No immediate decision from Bettman is expected.
